Google Caffeine and Backlinks

Yeah... So I've read a lot about Google Caffeine and backlinks but couldn't find a straight answer, so I'd like to ask here, no beating around the proverbial bush: Does backlinking and using packets still the most effective method of getting on the front page of Google, or are we doomed to having Amazon and other "established" websites dominate the top spot for low competition keywords? An expert opinion would be much appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for the very fast answer, could you please elaborate? I assume you mean internal backlinks when you say onsite SEO, but I don't know what you mean by offpage.

Off page is how the links pointing to your site are. If you're trying ti rank for 'widgets', you want all of your backlinks to be the text 'widgets', not click here.

Hey thanks! I just started with forum posting and this cleared up all my doubts. Can I have multiple keywords pointing to more than one page, can I use multiple keywords in my forum signatures?

Yes to both, as long as the lniks in your sig aren't affiliate links.

I see, so nothing really has changed then? That seems to be the way I did it last year with great success, maybe this "algorithm" update is a placebo. Hmm,... I think Matt Cutts is feeding a nice line of bull lol

The anchor text of your backlinks matters much more than onsite SEO. Want proof? Apple and adobe flash are in the top 3 for 'click here', even though it's only on the page once (or not at all!).

Just make sure that your BLs use the keywords that you're trying to rank for, I've never needed to use packets outside of my own BL creation (articles, press releases, etc.)

Offpage is when you link, from other bigger sites, to your main site. For example: forum signatures (like mine) or blog comments. The link would be the keyword. That's where the SEO comes in.

Internal linking and titles have a lot to do with onpage SEO. Make sure the titles all include the keyword(s) you are targeting as well as the articles on your page.

Hmm, it sounds like nothing has changed. I use the keyword in the anchor text and in my title tag for a keyword that has about 250k results in quotes 7 mil without but after 2 days of backlinking no luck getting ranked so far. My site is indexed and its a wordpress blog with 5 pages but the backlink points directly to the product page. Is searching in quotes not doable anymore or something?

Almost no one searches in quotes; that's just a way to establish competiting pages. Search without quotes and see how you rank; 2 days of backlinking won't get you far... even if it's a ton of backlinks, it usually takes a week or so before they start affecting your ranking.

I'm sorry, that's what I meant by searching in quotes. 250kresults in quotes means it would be pretty easy to rank on a page that has 7mil without quotes, right?

Regarding the backlinks, I guess ill keep adding links for a week and cross my fingers

Whats more important is what the top 10 results are... if they are article in directories or free blog sites, you'll have no problem. Keep in mind that as long as your backlinks are quality, you'll get traffic from them long before you start to get organic traffic :-)

Another good tip about caffeine is to keep your blog, or website updated at least a couple times a week. Google is ranking sites higher with newer, fresher content.

After reading a lot of info on caffeine it sure sounds like social networking sites are in and long tail keywords are given more favor to authority sites like Amazon.

When you say article directories in search results my mind goes to crazy competitive CB cause everybody is more than likely looking for those keyword results as well. So my assumption is is that its going to take a mix of social networking, articles, and backlinks to show Google that the site is legit for niche keywords.

Hopefully G still ranks sites fast with niche keywords, but it looks like the only way to find out is to try. Anyways I've ran myself ragged mentally over this situation cause I hate waiting to see if this website ranks and it being 3:30am isn't helping either. So I'm gonna get some shuteye so I gan think of more questions to ask while I wait for google to update the changes I've made since google indexed my site, if the changes take place and I still don't rank I think I'm gonna go temporarily insane lol
