Found this layout on google by accident.
I am revamping a site, and thought I would give
it a go. Anybody have any thoughts on this layout?

    Hi Paul,
Is it not just a little aggressive with the 4 adsense blocks adsense only allows 3 per page does it not ?

As a reader that would annoy the hell out of me. If you got rid of number 3 i think it would look fine. But then again if you get more clicks with that layout, go for it!

3 Ad boxes + 3 link units. That's the limit.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

        LOL!!! Test test test! Exactly.

Thought I would toss it up to get reactions. Does not look
promising...I actually like it! A little dated as the 728 has
a different look. Maybe it would be less cluttered with the
        new style.

So many people post about where to place them, thought I'd get
one more in the mix that was being shown by google.

If you have the number of advertisers for it, it should work well. 16 advertisers can be a bit difficult to find with small niches, unless they're not going to be very targeted. The spots are in each major heat zone, though.

I'm actually testing something similar mywelf, minus the link unit. So far, so good - it seems to be performing well, but as noted above it requires a decent number of relevant ads to work.

well unless you have html copyrighted....why not? I have made many
templates and save them. I don't reinvent the wheel. I copy-and-paste
      a layout I like.

I code using php and html by hand. Very easy to toss up tables, ad units,
      content, etc.

Good points here, as always from the normal posters!

Yeah that 16 ad thing may be a bit much right off the top. I have
noticed sometimes that the same ad appears at the top of the first
two. Never figured that out. That's what has always kept me from
      putting too many units together.

If I did that, I may choose image only for one.

I have never liked link units either.

I am sure you will get a very good CTR. But it seems a little too aggressive in my opinion.

It is defintely - in your face advertising :p

The skyscraper (3) being in-line is an interesting approach. Maybe try it being down a bit more in the content so it looks truly in-line?

I would test swapping Ad Unit (1) with a wide link unit, too.

Put the vertical menus on the right hand side. Also I would change the right adsense block into a square ad block and put it after a couple of paragraphs of text.

HubPages has a fantastic ad layout, just copy their design (although they do move their ads about to mix it up a bit).
