IMO FB ads are worthless. When compared to AdWords, they want A LOT more per click and their CTR just plain stinks. My last campaign ran concurrently on both networks, Adwords was costing about $0.60 CPC at about 0.85% CTR while FB wanted about $2.00 CPC at about 0.2% CTR. That is just too large a disparity for me to consider FB again.

But, if you're paying per click and not per impression, why does the CTR matter, unless they adjust your CPC based on CTR?

The more important factors are conversions and ROI.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I agree ROI is important, I moved from doing socialgalore app installs paying $1.35 per install to a big ticket item for this campaign in order to atleast make back what I put in

Do you realize the level of ROI that would be needed to make up for the CPC difference?

And the CTR factors into that where?

The suggested bid for CPC on Facebook has little to do with anything. Whatever you make your bid, it suggests a higher price.
At least that has been my experience.

For an ad I'm running right now, it first suggested a bid of $1.60-2.00.
When I set my bid to 0.05 it suggests a bid of 0.14-0.32. Go figure.

In my experience, you set your ad, pay the lowest suggested price until you start getting impressions, then lower your bid to 0.01-0.05 cents.

I do this and I get continued clicks.

I'm running an ad right now CPC at $0.05, with a CTR of 0.508.

Am I the only one seeing the problem in paid traffic converting 0.23% + the fact that a lot of users on FB are teens with no credit card and another third are college students with no interest in buying Clickbank products?

      Organic traffic rocks.

Actually this ad was perfect for them, it was a facebook game that I get paid for everything they install. All the have to do is install the game. The Ad is run on facebook and the app is on facebook. The results should have been better in my opinion.

Considering I got about 600+ fans in 3 days, I expected more.

That is why you target by age and education level when you run facebook ads. You can't do such precise targeting on Adwords. Target the 30+ college grads who have money.

I'm only paying 35 cents for FB clicks... i wonder why yours are so expensive??

Did you try just bidding a lower amount than the recommended bid??

Got some more facebook coupons to try again with an image ad and a better market.

I doubt I can fail now that I know what I know. Since facebook is 400 million people and quite a few have no CC cards, only thing to direct them to is a Zip submit.

My experience with facebook is not good, I spent $100 and made nothing, free traffic is king, it does not cost a penny and is constant.

I don't think FB allows CB, affiliates, etc...

If FB works for you, go on with it!

I would assume, overall, FB ads have a dismal CTR, let alone monetization.

Adwords is king and will stay king for a long, long, time.

FB is full of socializers...nuff said.

I would probably pump up twitter before ever buying a FB ad.

But, as stated, if you get success with FB ads, keep it up!

You can't compare click-thru-rates on Facebook to those of Adwords ads running on Google.com. They are two TOTALLY different animals. The better comparison would be CTR fo Facebook ads to those on Google's Display Network (Adsense sites) but even those are different.

People searching Google.com are being shown ads relevant to what they are searching for. People on Facebook are not there to search for anything... they are there to interact with their friends. While they are interacting, they are being shown ads. The CTRs are expected to be MUCH lower on FB. This is very similar in nature to why the CTRs on Adsense sites are MUCH lower than those on Google.com and their Search Network.

Getting LOTS of impressions even without many conversions can still be a good thing if you're trying to build a brand.

Worry about ROI... cost-per-conversion in relation to profits-per-conversion. As long as you're making money at an acceptable profit margin, who cares that your CTR is low? If you can increase the CTR by optimizing the ad then great... but if you can't, you're still making money.

Use Aweber you can choose to remove the double Opt In.

Create an image ad in FB and send all people who click to a landing page that offers Free Gift and the call to action is the button on the email submit "click here for instant access"

The confirmation page, is whatever affiliate or CPA site landing page/affiliate link.

I'm sure people advertising on FB are either doing

FB ad > Landing Page/Squeeze page > Confirmation Page > Affiliate marketing offer

    or

FB Ad > Landing page/squeeze page > Email List > Emailing until a sale is made
