Submitting Your Site To Directories

When I first started my sites about 5 years ago I used to use directory submitting software and sites like Directory Maximizer to add my URL for backlinks.

Backlining techniques have moved on and I've not used these for years, but was just wondering if people still use this and if it's still effective?

Any thoughts? Thanks...

yes shobo you are right, it will take time to get listed obviously requires sufficient time to get enrolled...

I have started doing the same and with some social networks but response was not so good as expected.

Now working on facebook and forums... it seems goood

I'd be interested to hear if directory submission still works too. I think every backlink helps.

I'd outsource it and get manual directory submissions.

It is just another way to get backlinks, although very time consuming if done manually and inefective if done automaticaly.

Yeah thanks I appreciate what it is but was really wondering if it still works and is viable?

Also anyone still use Directory Maximizer?

    Hiya,

I've been using Directory Maximizer for the last month or so.

Seems to be good, i'm getting the link, however i've not noticed any ranking improvement. I went for the 100 links or so a month service, and it's early days.

I'm also trying their social bookmarking service too.

I'll let you know how that goes.

Best off just submitting to 4 or 5 very high quality directories.

My first foray was directory submissions. In hind site, it was a waste of time. 9 months after I had submitted several hundred, 0 traffic, few if any inbound links that were worth anything.

Yeah I never submit my websites to directories the reasons is simple. If you look for something you use a search-engine. I never use directories or what so ever. So it is time wasting, time you can better put in some quality posting on forums or blogs which will generate traffic.

Incansoft's directorybot is pretty good. You have to confirm your submission via email and each directory sends an email back if your submission was approved/denied.

I would agree that outsourcing manuel submissions is the way to go. I've found that oDesk is very good for this. Directory maximizer is over priced and a lot of their submissions are to 0PR sites

I use to submit my site manually on directories.
There are various directories submission sites we can search on google than manually submit our site to them.

It is a good technique to build your backlinks. Manual submission is far more effective, but very time consuming! Although if you had an auto submitter that worked, personally I think it is better than nothing.

Manually work is good according to me ... but if you submit directories in limits .. means not like spamming then it can work for you

I actually think that if you are prepared to spend the time creating a unique description of your site with each directory submission then it can be a very good way of generating traffic.

When deciding which directories to submit to, it's a good idea to focus on the higher quality directories - although you will probably find that they have stricter guidelines re what types of sites they'll accept. The older directories are generally better for this as some of the newer ones (particularly those under a year old) may not be trusted by the search engines.

I think this is a good technique to get backlinks for your site, but it definitely requires greater time to get backlinks rather than use of a software which is now people are using more in order to save time.

Manual submission to top directories works well in ranking. It is better to submit 2-3 top ranking directories than a 1000 directory auto submission.I tried lot of auto submitters and services...waste of time and money.

The top directories can provide some traffic as well as a link. It maybe just a click or two per month, but it can add up if you are in the top 10 directories. Forget directories that accept automated submissions- you will never get traffic from them even if you are listed in 1000 of them.

In my experience directory listing software has mostly been a waste of time. There are a few worth submitting to (DMOZ) but most usually do not result in much Google juice when it comes down to it.

Is the lack of "juice" from auto submiters from the lack of credible sites within their network?

Submitting your site to thousands of search engines / directories is LITERALLY pointless. It may give you 1 back link (if Google ever finds it) and that's about it. other than yahoo/Google/Bing/Ask, don't bother. that's like 95% of the market already.
Take the most dominant, Google, and channel your energy towards that as it has the greatest return on investment (for your efforts).
You might want to consider a program like SE-nuke too. It gets you REAL back links with authority.

Manual submission to directories not automated mass submission, every time.

And yes, it is still a valid way to promote your site and what you do. It works!
