Researching Aged Domain Backlinks - help please

Hi,
I'm really new to aged domains. I'm using DomainFace and Domain Samurai. I see where the number of backlinks are listed for each s.e. for each domain, but how do I determine what they are? How can I determine how many .gov, .edu, .org backlinks a domain has?

Also, please tell me if I'm wrong when I assume that a domain with no PR (or 0 PR) is not necessarily worthless. It seems to me that if it's over 8 years old and has backlinks, it could be worth something.

Thank you so much!
Jen

    Hi Jen,

What you want to do is check out the backlinks with something like SEOSpyglass - you can use the free version for that. That should tell you the PR and if the links have been removed and also where they are from.

I usually like to make sure that there are more than 1 good quality link and also, make a judgment if the link will stick after you buy the domain (if the person that owns the site with the link would be vigilant about checking where the links go and then removing it if he saw the site had changed)

Also, make sure that the domain still has at least 1 page indexed.

I think a PR0 would have some value if just for the age. Probably more value than a brand new one, but I'm not really sure how much or if it would be worth the extra price.

Thank you so much, Lee, for your helpful info. I'd like to give you a WF thank-you but can't see how to do it. Thanks, though!

freshdrop.net is a good one for getting a complete list of expiring domain on most of the major domain registers.

I'm going to have to check that out. That could be really useful.

I would use a free tool as a start, Yahoo Site Explorer. It lists the most links you can get for free from a competitor's site, otherwise use Google Webmaster tools to find out your own links.

you are using the free version of domain face. domain face have six options to choose from. four of them is more powerful that the free search option that is in market samurai.

domain face have an option for 14.99 a month that you can see some of what you are looking for. it is way better that using resister compass for 37 dollars a month. but you do not get all of the features with that.

    Hi Jen

I'm glad to see you are using Domainface. If you are using Domainface from the main web interface at Domainface.com you can click on the actual Majestic SEO backlink count and this will breakdown all of the backlinks.

Jen if a domain is indexed in Google and has a history relevant to your niche then it will be giving you an immediate head start whether it has page rank or not

    Hope this helps
