What to do if Adsense is not Relevant?

I have a site that is similar to "Stock Photos" and the problem is that Google Adsense reads "Stocks" so it throws up ads for stocks, etc.. they are not relevant. Any suggestion on what to do in this case?

      A very easy trick I use on my own sites.

      Go to Google images & double check your keywords to make sure Google thinks your keywords subject is correct, to your thinking.

      All Google products (Adsense, etc...) is simply software, sometimes they don't understand what humans are trying to say. Simply changing one keyword to plural can offset a keywords effectiveness.

      #1 link/keyword above "Stock Photos" returns images of the stock market. The 2nd link doesn't return stock market images.

    I would make sure the word photo/photography is more prevalent on the page than stock. I had an old travel site, Vagabond Bible, and we used to always get Bible adverts and jesus stuff, after a while what happened was we ensured that near all our adverts we had articles that had a bunch of travel related keywords, after a while adsense "figured it out"

    Just add a few more related terms in your meta data as well as content so Google knows the site is relevant to a particular area. So for example, you can go to the Google wonderwheel and get some ideas of terms to integrate into your content.

    Google is an example. Try and also add some further LSI terms.

    Since, Yukon has had first hand experience of this issue, it would be better to follow his advice in the first instance and see how you get on.

    You can do a little research your self:

    Download the adsense preview tool for IE and check what kind of ads are severed for websites similar to yours. When you see a consistence ad to content relevance for certain site, just copy what they did!

    You have to use words related to stock photos throughout your website.. Never use stock as a single word. You can use synonyms for Stock Photos inside your post.. Make use of H and B tags.

    You may want to try section targeting, where you suggest sections of text in your content that you'd like to emphasise when it comes to matching ads to your site's content.

    I would try to place your keywords a little more in the titles, headings, content but also in the meta tags: description, keywords, etc. I had the same problem a while ago. I added a few keywords here and there and I started to see relevant ads. I don't know if that's the reason but it's quite likely.

      AdSense is working as described, even if it's not how you imagined it. There are limitations to automated ad placement - the AdSense crawler does the best it can, but it messes up sometimes. That's why Google provides you tools to improve the relevance of your ads.

        1. find out all the LSI keywords in the Google Wonder Wheel and write all future posts targeting these KWs.

        2. use Google's section targeting

        3. put up a relevant video about the topic you are focusing on, on your homepage

    You need around 300 words on a page and repeated keyword use (once in the title, once in the first paragraph and once in the last one) to get google to fully understand your content in my experience

    I have had this experience with Adsense as well. It takes some time for Adsense to figure out what your page is all about, but as with the replies above it helps if you expand on your keyword and even throw in related keywords so that Adsense understands the context of your page. I have a web site dedicated to ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) so what I do is add actual names of ETF's as well as strategies used to trade ETFs.

    Marhelper, I have managed google ads on some websites and when I see ads that I do not feel are relevant or are directly competitive with my site I add the URL them to the Competitive Ad Filter list so that ads from that site will not show up. I did have to add a lot of URLs here but once I did it eliminated most of the problem.

    To get to the Competitive Ad Filter, login to your Google Adsense account, click on the Adsense Setup tab, and click on the Competitive Ad Filter sub-tab. Enter the URL(s) you want to not show ads for in the list and make sure to Save Changes.

        Unless I totally missed reading it in this thread, no one mentioned self-clicking adsense on their sites. The issue is ads showing up that have nothing to do with the post or page.
