Not sure where to place Google search box code which comes with adsense.

Any help and direction will be greatly appreciated.

    The best thing you can do is install a Theme that is Adsense ready.

    This can make it a lot easier for you to add the Adsense code.

    A Free theme you can check out is called Heatmap Theme.

    WordPress Adsense Ready Theme - HeatMap Theme

    There is a premium version but I find the free on to be very good.

      Where or how?

      I'm going to answer to the "where" question:
      Depending on your design if you have a side menu or top menu:
      • above the side menu
      • on the right side of the top menu
      • right side of the header
      For the how question it depends on the CMS your using.
