Unless I missed it, the whole article discusses "seo hosting", and there is not one, single mention of buying hosting with multiple IP addresses, spread out across different c-class IPs (ad a minimum)?

Maybe I should write an article on the LA Lakers and not mention in the entire article that they play basketball :-)

They should have just titled the article "hosting."

Dedicated class C IPs aren't necessary for good SEO.

I agree that the article isn't related to SEO hosting.

To be fair, do I think that SEO hosting is a bit of a con (it's mainly just a marketing technique and tries to convince people that dedicated IPs are necessary)

But yeah, the article itself doesn't match the title or introductory paragraph. And arguably one of the most important things a host can do for SEO nowadays (ensure bandwidth is quality and server loads are low - i.e. ensuring quick loading speeds) wasn't mentioned at all in the article. It's odd..

You're that that it should just be titled "Hosting". And even then they should have mentioned that a host with overloaded servers and poor quality bandwidth will harm you considering that Google are now ranking by speed (albeit only as a minor factor)

A good article overall though. Just it doesn't match its own title

Good point. I also didn't see any SEO Hosting related content in that article.

There is an entire column about dedicated hosting and they implied that it would include a "unique" IP. They probably should have elaborated on that a bit I do agree. Most folks don't investigate their shared IP's to assess their neighborhood either. I could see how the article would be helpful to some people getting into SEO.

Now, these were all general terms you will have to deal with no matter which hosting provider you are considering. The SEO-specific terms you should also keep in mind is as follows:

IP address is basically the unique number which identifies the location of your server on the Internet. Like we have mentioned above, if you are on a shared or virtual private server, your site should be sharing a IP address with a number of other websites. If you are on dedicated server, you have a unique IP address.

I've never been 100% that hosting will ever better your rankings.

It's probably to do with minimising 'footprints'. So if you're building a blog network then you don't want them all on the same server and with same whois. Google does look at that stuff and if it detects too much of - they're all on one server and linked up together or linking to the same sites, and it's run by the same guy .. hmm..

To make it look more natural it's better to spread your sites across servers (hosts) and try to use different whois .. family members? gf/bf?

Well I think we need to wait if google will give concrete facts about these issues just the same with page speed which matt has a 50/50 answer for that one.
