How to get from the Second page to the First page of Google?

Hey all,

The site for our company is currently at the top of the second page of Google for a very high search term keyword that would bring us a lot of customers, however I am having trouble getting that last couple of positions higher to push us over to the first page

I've done pretty much every form of unpaid SEO I can think of, the only thing that I haven't really explored is getting more back links from higher page rank sites (even though we currently have hundreds of relevant back links as one of our services is web design and we put a back link on every one of our customer's sites).

Any thoughts for the last, final push? Anyone else in a similar situation?

Our company's website is http://www.xtreme.com.au if it is of any help.

Thanks!

    Hi There!

I would suggest creating a news article about your company or product and posting it to webwire.com.

The news article doesn't need to be too long, just written in the third person. You can try to put some excitement in it, such as "Pharmaceutical Companies are in an uproar over new natural ACME creme remedy".

If you create the article correctly, you will be # 1 on google.

You can create more page specific backlinks for the pages/keywords you wish to rank (vs just sending most of them to your homepage).

There is a lateral technique - where you keep a check on any bad/slightly bad press about your site/company and reply to it.
You can keep tabs on what people are saying about your company/site on twitter with Monitter and then reply to the tweets. It could double your micro content out there and will also satisfy bad press - which is a win win.

    Hi,

I did read your OP and also took a good look at your homepage. Several
    things come to mind...

First, it's hard to tell what your homepage is optimized for. I can take a
good guess, but it's hard to be sure strictly speaking from your homepage
and an SEO point of view.

I'm guessing it's hosting or maybe IT.

My point is that if it's hard for a person to know for sure, then that will
probably apply to a SE bot.

Also, is that the "keyword" you're trying to get on page one for? You
mention the singular form of 'keyword' in your OP. I don't know if you did
    that on purpose, or not.

Is that keyword the same as what your homepage is supposed to be
    optimized for?

Hate to say it but it does look like your nav structure is not conducive to
helping you with regard to SEO. You sort of have it right, but all those
lists of links at the top should be on separate pages. The links to those
pages would remain on your homepage. You ideally want to follow the silo
    structure for SEO nav structure.

But, I think it's probably "ill-advised" to change the nav structure at this
point. It's my understanding that you would experience some major dancing
in the serps, and that would be understandably painful and unwanted.

Another extremely important question is whether or not you've analyzed the
page one competition in terms of SEO strength. You didn't mention it, so that
could indicate you have not. Maybe you did.

If you have not done that, then you need to do it so you know what you need
to do to beat them. You'll also have a better idea as to how long it would take
    to beat them.

If page one is crammed with homepage url's with high PR and professional SEO,
    then you're in for a real slug-fest.

What I suggest is you concentrate on raising the PR of your inner pages. That
will funnel PR to your homepage and obviously help a lot.

Also, whatever search term you're trying to get on page one for... try to do
better on-page optimization on your homepage for that term/word.

If you're trying to rank for a single keyword phrase, like hosting for example,
then I'm confident you are looking at a very difficult effort to get there. You
can, of course, but I believe you'll have to make some kind changes to your
homepage. But be very careful that you don't upset things too much.

The articles on your homepage? Replace what you have there with articles
solely about the phrase/word your homepage is supposed to be optimized
for. And I presume that is the word you're talking about in your OP.

Get links to your inner pages. Try to use anchor text for your backlinks that
are relevant to the specific pages they're pointing to. The anchor text to a
specific page should be the same keyword phrase that the page is optimized
    for.

Hope that helps and good luck.

    Ken

PS - Congratulations, you're my 600th post. I'll buy you a cup of coffee, sometime.

    Hi,

Write a press release with your targeted keywords. Your keyword must appear in heading and in 1st paragraph. Try to include atleast 5% keywords in your PR. This will do magic

If you only have a few hundred links I don't see how you could have done all the free advertising methods to any extent.

Just using social bookmarking you can get thousands.

Just using article submissions you can get thousands.

Just using press releases you can get thousands.

Just using video sharing sites you can get thousands.

And there are lots of other ways to get links.

It sounds like you haven't really done much to leverage all the systems around designed to get you lots of links.

Press releases or related methods can give your site a sudden thrust but the traffic will be lowered after a while. The most effective methods as you know could be creating more backlinks (if you want to position high in SERPs). Also if you just want traffic then social bookmarking as well as social media marketing can also help.

  • It may sound obvious, but keep doing what you've been doing. The fact that you're almost on page one means you're doing the right things.

Ensure that your on-page seo it top notch, and then keep building high quality backlinks. Simple but super effective.

keep building more backlinks but focus on highPR pages and also in context links. You your clients have backlinks to you - maybe you can alter that anchor text to add a boost to your pages also - and also make sure you are not just linking to your homepage add some links to other pages too from random places artciles, blog comments etc. then the whole Pr of your site will increase also. and then yeah you souldbe able to rank higher up to #1 ---- also, check out the backlinks that your competitiors have - maybe yo ucan get some from the same places??

yeah try and create more content on your site related to your niche that has original content and is extremely useful.

Yes getting links from higher page rank sites is definitely a step in the right direction. You can also evaluate the pages that are on page one for your search term. Yahoo's backlink checker is gone...but you can use seoquake and look at the sites that are out ranking you and work on making your site out-compete them via more links and more content.

As you seem to already suspect, you need some links from high PR pages. Specifically, I'd go for contextual anchored links from a page with relevant content that has decent PR. Can't really beat that.
