Confused About Directory Submissions

Hey guys,

I'm a little confused. When submitting your URL to a directory....is the reason to do that just to get indexed, or are you trying to get an actual backlink to your site?

    I was confused because I didn't know if it actually created a backlink or not.

    Plus I tend to over-complicate simple things sometimes.

    Directory submission is more effective for making backlinks not faster indexing.
    Article directories, Squidoo, Hubpages and social bookmarking sites can help faster indexing.

    both, you are getting the backlink to your site which google will see and follow to your site. thus finding the site and adding it to googles index.

    dont bother with reciprocal links unless they are in your niche
