Can someone give me some info on the best way to have my own website.......

I want a forum and also to earn money from ads. Needs to be pretty easy to set up myself.

Preferably free

Learn to build and then grow a site or blog with decently written content/info/design (blog is easiest to learn and can be installed using Fantastico on Hostgator or other good host account).

Create a product or following as a reason for a forum (or it will be an empty forum)

Get enough traffic to the site or blog to make money from ads

Isn't totally free (pay for domain and hosting), isn't push button easy but is easily doable. You can do it all yourself - but it takes some work and time to get it all working.

Thanks for replying, What would be the best domain and hosting company to use? a lot of them want you 2 pay 60 months in advance for it to be cheap but i really just wanted to see how it goes.

Do you know if any offer a month by month payable fee?

Forums are easy to set up and get something going but like kay king said Isn't totally free and dont use free ones as whats the point your just earning them money, but the niche is important and making sure the forum is getting used.

Before you even get started, you should change your mindset.

    There is nothing FREE.

If you think you can build a website with a forum and have a big readership and do it all for FREE, than you are in the wrong business.

Nothing is FREE even though most "gurus" will make you think that way.

Building a business online is a lot cheaper than any other type of business to build, but it will still cost you money and time.

You need to be willing to invest. If you are looking for the short way, than I don't think you should even start.

That tells me you haven't done much research before jumping in to work online. Your domain name will depend on WHAT you decide to do online - and many hosting companies (such as Hostgator) have monthly hosting payments.

If you want to "see how it goes" - you will carry that mindset into everything you do. I'd advise doing some research and a lot of reading here on this forum before deciding if internet marketing is what you want to do.

Usually - if you put nothing in, you get nothing out. If you are just tooling around to see what happens, you won't have the persistence to make something happen.

The most common thing newbies say is "I don't want to spend any money until I see if this works". Problem is, if you don't pay for the basic tools to work online (domain and hosting), it won't work.

Domain: less than $10 for a one year registration
Hostgator: $7-10 per month depending on what plan you choose

Yes, and this indicates that they are already expecting it not to work and then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

But you don't have to spend a ton of money to get started - you can buy a domain over at namecheap for like $9.99 and host as many domains as you want with the hostgator "baby" plan for under $8 a month. No need to pay for 60 months in advance.
