Targeting competitive niches and keywords
- SEO |
I did that for a couple of months and then got bored and did nothing else with it.
I didn't make a fortune, but I made anywhere from $80 to more than $200 a month - for about two and a half years after I stopped doing anything to or with the site. (Then I sold it).
So - I have gotten several messages from people on here saying, "But if you target high paying adsense niches, isn't there a lot of competition?"
And the answer is - yes, but if you target LOW PAYING niches where you get a penny or a nickel a click, you will never make any money.
I've heard from a number of successful marketers - go where the money is. If there is no competition, that is almost a sure sign there is no money in that niche.
What niches pay well? Any niche where the person stands to make a lot of money from a client. Loans. Mortgages. Apparently - from some research that I have done - DUI attorney terms.
How do you find out which clicks pay well? Google is somewhat mysterious and fuzzy on this, but you can approximate it this way:
Go to Google's keywords external page. On that page - before you type in the keyword you want to research - go to the little tiny "columns" link on the middle of the page, to the right, where it says Sorted By: Relevance, Columns...
Yeah, click on columns. It will take you to the columns page. Then, a Customize Columns box will appear. Click on the box next to Estimated Avg CPC
And then, when you go back to the regular keywords page, and search for your keyword phrase, it will tell you how much ADVERTISERS pay - which gives you an idea of how much you will make. If an advertiser pays $10 for a click - it's a good bet you will get at least a buck or two for that click.
If an advertiser pays 5 cents a click...move on. Not worth targeting.
