Question on Keyword selection

I am selecting a keyword to initiate my SEO. I am not able to decide on two of them.

Say, I was selling widgets:

Keyword: xyz widgets = Global search = 550,000
Keyword: free xyz widgets = Local search = 40,500

I do offer a version of the service that is free, so should I focus on the keyword "free xyz widgets" or go with the broader "xyz widgets"?

Thanks

550k is a tall task for anyone, you got 9-12 months to wait?

    Go Long tail targeted.

Does that mean that if I pick to optimize for "free widgets for sale", I am automatically optimizing for "widgets for sale" as one term is a subset of the other?
