Google Adwords - Do you know of a tutorial?

After being on the internet for a while, I have discovered that people sell lots of things to make a quick buck. I have the feeling that many internet marketers are out to make a quick buck and consider most people to be credit cards - not human beings. Hopefully, that is not the case with you. People who buy good products become repeat customers - at least that's the way I think.

I am a human being - not just a credit card - and I am trying to use Google adwords to promote my very small business - teaching English (I have a private English tutoring service robthetutor.com).

I would be happy to purchase a product that would help me learn Google adwords so I can promote my service. The problem I have seen is that most adwords ebooks and tutorials are out of date - google has changed so much. Do you have a product, or know of one that shows how to use the service as it currently is - or at least fairly current? If it is a good product, I will buy it. If it is a product produced 3 years ago - then I will not be too happy.

I think I did most things correct to start my campaign - and my status has been changed to "eligible" on adwords. The problem is - i don't know if the campaign is actually live now or not. If google did better tutorials, I would not need help --- but now I do.

I always wish you the best of success. Thanks for reading this....

Robert

I have never understood why people don't read google.
      They make everything readily available.

The nuances can be gleaned from this forum.

However, local businesses are not geared for adwords, unless you are
      national and have chains everywhere.

Do any search for tutoring and sylvan, huntington, kaplan, etc. are going to be tough
to beat for adwords. Very cost prohibitive.

You are better off going for google maps, craigslist, etc. Those are free.

Sorry, but I'm afraid that is nonsense. Careful selection of keywords, along with setting up geo targeting can make Adwords very effective for a local business.

    Rob,
Quick advice if you are starting ppc. Set-up two accts with adwords. use one for testing different campaigns and then after a month or so pick out the best converting ones with the highest CTR ( Click Thru Rate) and move those campaigns move into the 2nd acct. This is give your 2nd acct an over all high quality score with adwords and save you a ton of money over the long run.

Also if your business is offline based, consider using Geo location listing with google for your keyword. This is when you type in a keyword and a list of local business appears for that particular keyword. If you don't do have a business address u can rent one for cheap for a month or a week, these are call executive suites ( these places will rent their address out, so you dont have to actually get any office). Once you have a listing, you can then ask your previous and current clients to give you reviews, thus further increasing your ranking in the geo search listing. This method is completely free once it is set up and is even better than ppc.

    well, hope this help.

PS. I looked at your site and I think you need to improve and spilt test your copy. You should go to the the copywriting forum for some advice. http://www.warriorforum.com/copywriting-forum/
No offense, but if you are considering doing PPC with the current copy, you will not be using your resources wisely. I would even go as far as recommend hiring a copywriter to redo your copy. GL

      NO! Do not do this!

Agree however that you could use a copywriter so that it will convert better. I have a feeling the current page would not.

Read the Google documents. They are good. Can still be confusing however to someone new so you may want to hire someone just to set up your campaign. I can do this for you and have even done one for a tutor.

Paul mentioned that Adwords is not good for local businesses. I disagree and I think your particular niche can do well. There is a lot of competition however, both local and national which might scare you away with relatively high click costs.

After a day or so, Google will show you the number of ad views, your CTR and the number of clicks.

Next to each keyword you will see your average ad position (IE 4.6)

Search in google for your keyword related to your ad and you should see the ad near that posiiton if you have not used up your daily funds or paused the ad,

Just go to your local book store, purchase an Adwords book published in the last year (possibly by Perry Marshall), and read. Sign up for the Google Adwords certification program and study their tutorials.

From the sound of it, you'll have a very simple campaign with a few ad groups. Use geo-targeting as some of the previous posters stated to target your community. I doubt there is a lot of competition. Clicks should be relatively cheap.
