Blog Commenting - Tips For Newbies

I just wanted to give a few tips to those of you who aren't experienced with blog commenting. I get nearly 90% of my blog comments approved by following a few simple guidelines that I preach to my own blog readers.

Do
  • Use your keyword for your username
  • Add you URL to the website box
  • Read the post you’re commenting on
  • Leave a meaningful comment, relevant to the post
Do Not
  • Write an advertisement for your website
  • Include extra links to your website (you already have 1 on the page, you don’t get credit for any more)
  • Post affiliate links, especially if the blog is in the same niche as your website/selling the same products
  • Post a random, irrelevant sentence then move on to the next blog
  • Post random letters/numbers

The reason I bring this up is because I spent a good amount of time today commenting on blogs and chatting with authors. It may have taken me 5-10 minutes per blog post (maybe longer if they had a top commentator plugin) but almost every comment I made was approved and I learned some new things. Then I go and check my own blog a few minutes ago and marked almost 100 comments as spam. All from 3 users, leaving comments like "adsjfhajnjlj [anchor text + link] asfjkhjka." It might have taken them 5 minutes to get through my posts, but all my comments are held for moderation and every single one of them was deleted before anybody ever saw it. Therefore they learned nothing, got no links, and wasted their time. And they now have their URLs blocked.

To recap, blog commenting is great for links, learning new things, and networking with other authors. Don't try to cheat the system and spam your way through blogs.

So hopefully this is beneficial to some of you! Do it right or don't do it at all.

What kind of blogs do you comment on that get you 90% approval when leaving a keyword as your name? Most people will tell you that leaving a keyword as your name is an immediate flag, and people will deny the comment no matter how good it is just because of that. Maybe in the IM niche, but for example in the health and beauty niche, if we leave keywords as the name, most of the time it's flagged as spam no matter how good the comment actually is.

Rightly said by Billy bcoz most of the blogs would flag your post if you use keywords under the name.

I only use a keyword as my name if they are using KeywordLuv, otherwise I use my own name. Keywords do not have to be in the anchor text of your link, it is almost as good to have your keywords close to your link, so when not using KeywordLuv I just make sure one or two keywords are in the comment I make.

I mostly comment on blogs relevant to my niches but generally the quality of my comment is what gets my comments approved. Those 10% that don't get approved are more than likely because of the keyword in the name. And I don't leave it at one comment. If the author responds to my comment I respond to his response and build a b it of a relationship so when I go back for more comments, he or she is even more likely to look past the keyword name. I may try using a name instead of a keyword and see if I can get my approval rate even higher.

It doesn't help get your comments approved but I like my keyword as my anchor. I imagine you could receive an even higher approval rate if you use a real name.

If you don't put your keywords in your username (ie, if you use a real name), does that link still help promote your site? Or is the anchor text super important? Thanks for helping me get this stuff straight in my mind. I'm a newbie and still trying to figure it all out.

I hope leaving your keywords as the name is ok because I just hired someone to do blog commenting and that is how they did it.

Great information. Was wondering how you feel commenting has benefited your blog. Does it bring it more traffic, backlinks or what.
