Do you click on AdSense ads?

I'm not talking about your own AdSense ads, because that would be a no no, but the ones you see when you visit other web sites. Do you actually click on them?

I was thinking about this to myself this evening... and my answer is... rarely... I rarely click on AdSense ads... and by rarely I mean once a month, more or less (hah, if less than once a month is even possible). I very rarely see any AdSense ads that are compelling enough to entice me to click on them.

Is it because I see the same kinds of ads every time and I've become so accustomed to seeing MFA web sites? Or is it because just about every other web site I visit has these ads that it's no longer something I pay attention to anymore?

I do not pay any attention to ads, usually. The only time ads are a problem for me is when they are the kind that get in the way of what I am reading.

I do not like those, but if I can see where to click easily and get rid of them, they will not turn me off of a site if the content is good.

That said, I barely see Adsense ads.

Even on the few blogs or sites I visit that are overly-crowded with them plus other advertising, I do not really see them or pay attention as long as the content stands out well enough.

Well, we know that people ARE clicking on them -- Google's earnings prove that.

But, as Internet marketers, we're probably NOT typical of the kind of people that are most inclined to click on AdSense ads. So our view may be skewed.

Very rarely do I click on Adsense Ads because I know I will probably not convert and buy anything. And this can wreak havoc on the Site Publisher who gets smart priced by Google because of this action.

JP, if you are asking us internet marketers, I think John's answer is the BEST answer to your question. If you know you're making someone richer by clicking the ad, you simply don't click it. I know that's a bad human nature but just can't help it.. even though it doesn't cost me anything, right? lol.

It really depends for me really. For instance every now and again while I am doing some research for a new article. I will see an ad which is highly related to what I am searching for. So if it looks like it might have some information I will more then likely click on it just to see. Also as an adsense publisher I know how difficult it can be for many to generate some income from adsense ads so I feel inclined to atleast give them the 5-2.00$ for providing me with some useful information. Heck to show you how much I used to struggle making money with adsense was. My first 2 years with adsense generated me only 15$. It wasnt until a few months ago from switching things around at my sites that I started generating steady income from these adsense ads.

I think at some point you see the ads so much you want to commit alt-f4 to your keyboard. Now on the flip-side, someone who doesn't work online or with computers doesn't see those unsuspecting ads 9000 times a day, clicks on them with little to no emotion - or maybe full of emotion as a means to reach an end to a problem

I too never click on adsense ads except once in a while when they're just too catchy.

Sometimes however i do so just because i may have liked some information provided on a blog/site and i have no way of thanking the blog owner. I know it's retarded, but it surely does give me some satisfaction

I do that to, I am worried about the ethics of it, but I try my best to read some of the site the ad has taken me to so its not a complete waste of time for the advertiser. And I justify it by helping the advertisers CTR.

      Am I bad?

Yes, I do. I shop online a lot and if I look for a product and see an enticing ad of course I click on it.

Why wouldn't I? If I'm looking for something to buy - I'm exactly the kind of person the advertiser hopes to attract. You may know how the ads work - but that doesn't make them less useful if you are doing the shopping.

The only marketers I've met who refuse to click on ads are those new to adsense as they seem to think they lose something if another site profits from a click. Never figured that one out:rolleyes:

The only time I click on Adsense ads is when I'm actually interested in buying something.

Which is kind of what it's all about, heh?

Same here. If I'm looking for something specific the ads on the search results pages can save a lot of time. What I don't understand is why so many companies bid on keywords for stuff they don't even sell.

Rarely, because often the ads are not blended very well with the content, so they stand out as ads, and I don't see them. And second, it has to be an ad with an interesting content.

I find it strange that lots of people say they don't
click on adsense ads. I do - lots of times, when I see
what is of interest to me. And I do it without even
realizing that I just made the owner some money.

And yes, I have also bought from the sites I visted.

I don't usually BUT if I am actually hunting for a product or service I will deliberately LOOK for Adsense ads as I know they'll lead me to a selling site not just an info site.

On the same note if I see something of interest but I'm not in buying mode I'll avoid clicking out of courtesy to the vendor.

I never do. It is not a conscious effort to avoid them, but my brain (I think) is wired to overlook them all the time. It was the same even before I learn about marketing online.

That is why when I first heard about adsense and how publishers can make money with it, I was very skeptical. I thought it was a complete hoax...lol.

I rarely do, but occasionally if I am not seeing what I need on the website I am looking at, I will click an ad. I guess that's exactly what they are wanting me to do, huh? But that is probably just a few times per month.

I often click on ads when I'm looking to buy something. It's a great way of quickly finding sales directed sites and compare offers.

Additionally, I must admit that I sometimes click on ads as a way of thanking the owner of a blog or a site.

There are people earning money from clicking on ads.

That is the peak of the pyramid conspiracy that prises yet more money out of the advertisers at the bottom of the pyramid.

So, knowing what we all know about Adsense etc., the real question is "Would you ever pay to advertise online?"

And if you have paid for advertising, how did you know that your click thru stats weren't inflated by paid to click people in order to persuade you that your ad must be working thereby fooling you into continuing to pay for ads?

I do click on adsense ads if i find the ad related to my search. However i do rarely click on them. I do think that us IM'ers don't go clicking as much as normal web surfers do. I remember back then when i knew nothing about IM, i clicked on a bunch of ads that got the curiosity out of me.

Yes! People cilck on Ads! It doesn't matter If it is adsense or any other Ad, They Click!

    1. Because they need the info!
    2. Because It is of their Interest!

Most of the Internet users are not tech-savvy. They Use Internet because they have access to it! In their Office(Mostly), In their Home, In their Friend's House etc.

And when they look for something on the internet, they click on Ad If they see that it is similar to their interest (whether they are searching for that or not).

Google Provides the Best Relevant Ads, So it gets Most Clicks.

I Personally Do not Like Ads. But When I see a relevant ad and I think that it may be useful for me, I click on that Ad. Thats the Mindset of a Internet User.
