Hi,

I'm building some small niche sites and I'm wondering if it matters if I do say 5 pages of content or 5 posts? What have you guys found works better or does it matter?

Thanks,

Craig

    I personally think posts.

If you use Wordpress and install the right plug ins I find posts rank higher.

I think you should check out Mike Liebner new guide "Pages NOT Posts".

I think the best ting is to have 5 pages, and then a blog that posts related blogposts and randomly link to the different pages when relevant.

I have not tested this method but it sounds very workable

...there's really not enough of a significant difference between the two for the SE bots to make that distinction.

Its the content and rate of update that the bots factor into the algorithm when reporting back to the indexing engine.

Maybe, if it were that simple. Yet, there are other variables that factor in like...

      - on page SEO
      - linking neighborhoods
      - quality of content
      - relevance of anchor text
      - ...etc...

But, to utilize Occam's Razor... blogs could be considered to provide more "juice"; as this is why blog commenting is one of the things that is touted as a must for better ranking...

But again... its not that simple...

So if you have 5 pages then updating would you keep adding new pages or just add posts after you have had the pages?

... Jack Humphrey; a master blogger; is a good friend of mine and says that Pages are best used for "sticky" content and Posts are best used for 'updates' to the overall theme of the blog...

He gets several thousand hits per month from several thousand keywords; so I tend to put weight on what he says, regarding blogging in general.

It really comes down to content relevance over stuff like this. WP plugins like sitemap are the ones that tell Google what to consider more important, and these can be easily edited.

I really can't imagine it makes a different. But I would also vote for creating a mini CMS site in Wordpress. I.e. use pages and then configure it for a blog "on the side". That way your website has it's important content on pages like regular websites have... And then if you feel for it, you can run a blog as well. I use Wordpress for this on some niche sites.

Don't posts have their own permalink, which if backlinked to would become the same as a page to all intents and purposes?

Based upon on the content of the web pages & post. We will get PR.

Then we need to do other stuff like on page & off page factor.
