I've been contacted by several companies telling me they'll get me quality back links and SEO, I'm new and I was wondering if these are BS or if there are any companies i can trust?

Generally the companies with an awesome strategy are loaded up with clients, and you need to seek them out. If they are seeking you out, you have to wonder a little.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

    Howdy

I pretty much agree with dvduval, if the company is good, they probably have enough clients that they do not need to be out cold calling.

Then again they may be a new companies with a great business plan...Guess you need to do a lot of research once you narrow it down to a few companies

Good Luck....I would be interested in updates on how it goes

I agree all of the above all you need to do is to figure out which one is the best.

It's best just to make your own backlinks first before you try some of these companies that can guarantee SEO results.

Yes and No. When somebody contacts you they are just promoting themselves, just another type of self promotion. It is your responsibility to check out legitimacy of the business and how good they actually are. Ask for proof. There are many companies that just popped up recently as many gurus are promoting Offline businesses. Scary part is some of them say you don't have to know anything because you can outsource everything. I disagree with that, but well. Just do your homework.

I can't really see how a backlinking company can be that successful - even when it's legit. Optimization is really 70% on-page - not off page.

I agree with bigcat1967. What would they really do to make such a big difference?

        Wow, just wow

Unless you are going for keywords like "blue dog collar with yellow studs", off-page optimization is 90% of it. Without the backlinks, you will not get anywhere. If the SEO consultant didn't believe that, I would move on. The "build it and they will come" mentality just doesn't work unless you have a huge budget or a lot of time.

The more people with this attitude, the more easy keywords for me to go after

I think you mean off-page is about 70%

I disagree because if it's a new company there is only one way to get clients - go out and get them. They won't know you exist. How do you think the "masters" are "booked"?? They went to find clients!!

Getting quality backlinks is not a very big issue, anyone can help you with that. The problem comes in the SEO part, make sure that the company has some reputation regarding the subject in the history.
