Google dance is simply a terminology coined to refer to the scenario whereby your site is yet to settle down to a particular fairly consistent position within Google search engine results pages (SERPS) - Google index.

During this phrase, a lot of "dancing" takes place as your site may one day appear in a top position, disappear the next day, re-appear another day in a much lower position, disappear completely from the Google index on another day, etc.

In short, in this phrase, equilibrum has not yet been attained.

Google dance is nothing but the fluctuations it shows in its results for some of the keywords, often called flux.

Google Dance is the term which actually helps most of the " SEO Experts" to escape from their clients questions . (Just a joke only).

Fluctuation of Search Rank position of a new websites in Google Search Results is known as Google Dance.

It's when your site keeps bouncing up and down the google rankings before settling into a spot.

    Hi adidevpromo,

The real Google Dance was an annual tradition that lasted only 5 years with the last dance in the year 2006.

    Google Dance 2002
    Google Dance 2003
    Google Dance 2004
    Google Dance 2005
    Google Dance 2006

Which is also about the time the "SEO lingo" versions ended. Even though the traditional Google Dance no longer occurs many folks have began to call any shift in individual webpage ranklings a Google Dance, though it is not the same as the original version that occurred when major algorithm updates were instituted system wide.

The name Google Dance is often used to describe the update rate of the search engine Google. Google's index update occurs on average once a month. It is a fluctuation in the ranking of Google after an upgrade of the algorithms.

Not sure where most of you are getting your information from, but there has NOT been a Google dance since 2003:
The Google Dance goes back to the good old days of search engine optimization. Google used to update PageRank (PR) and the search engine rankings (SERPs) on a monthly basis. It was a big event as the updates would roll out. The SEO Forums would always be awash with long threads as webmasters announced their new PR and site rankings. Webmaster World would always name each update in the same way hurricanes were given names. In 2003, Google stopped the Google Dance and went to continuous updates. The SERPs and PR are updated continuously and there is no Google Dance anymore. The PR is exported for us to see a snapshot of the internal PR that is updated continuously every few months or so, but this is not the Google Dance. Sometimes you see newbies asking questions in webmaster forums about the Google Dance. Fortunately there are enough old hands around who remember the good old days and point out that there are no more Google dances (unless the staff at the Googleplex actually have a physical dance). The SEO Kiddies have all sorts of ideas of what they think the Google dance is. I can only assume that they were not around when Google did do the “Dance”
