Should I add more content to my niche sites?

Hi,

I have a few niche sites that rank fairly well (top 5). I'm thinking about adding more pages to these sites, but have some concerns.

Let's say I have a very narrow/specific niche, for example 'very blue widgets that are extremely nice', on the domain 'verybluewidgetsthatareextremelynice.com', and that this search term gets around 1,600 visits a month.

In my opinion it would not make sense to add pages about red widgets or yellow widgets (partly due to the domain name relevance), and also there would probably not be enough searches for 'very blue widgets that are extremely nice and comfy' for example.

Should I simply add more pages optimized for 'very blue widgets that are extremely nice', or would they start to compete with my main page, and which one should I then optimize for the search term?
Or should I just add these new pages with varying headlines, simply for the sake of content.

Hopes this makes sense.
Actually, what it boils down to is this: How should I add content/beef up my very narrow niche site?

What are your experiences with this?

Thanks.

Best regards,
Thomas

In very tight niches I usually don´t add pages, I simply let them run.

Wow, you almost have the same username as me.
So no need to expand them? I just figured that if I get for example 200 visits on a site ranked 5, I could increase that number by adding more pages.

I wouldn't. However, it wouldn't hurt if you did.

What if it was a broader niche, for example 'blue great widgets' and around 8,000 searches a month?

    Thanks.

What I would do for such a narrow sites would be to add pages with more generic terms, that wont hurt you at all, they may even help you to rank for more generic terms

I usually let them run and well optimized the pages.

So there's no idea in adding more pages optimized for the same keyword?

    Thanks.

Use wonderwheel keywords as new pages titles and keywords

It actually depends upon you. You can actually add some content if you want but for me just focus on the strategies on how to increase the page rank.

Thanks. So I should probably only add more pages to my more 'broad' niches.

    Thanks, everybody.
