IP.Board, 301 redirect and SEO questions
- SEO |
I'm (obviously) new to this forum, and SEO in general. Three years ago I built an internet community centered on a small brand in a large market. It's grown to 2000+ members, and most of the activity occurs in the IP.Board forums. Currently, the site is configured as:
domainURL <--- main page with links to forum, external sites, info, &c.
domainURL/forums <--- forum (all of the IPB software lives here)
Since I have upgraded IP.Board to the latest version, I want to start using the Portal and get rid of the existing, static HTML main page and links. There is no easy way of moving the IPB software out of the /forums subdirectory, though. My thought was to leave the IPB software where it is, and then use a 301 redirect:
domainURL >redirects to> domainURL/portal
My question is, how badly is this going to dick up my search ranking? Oh, and, is the 301 the preferred way to do this?
Many thanks, as I begin on this journey of boosting my site's rankings/results.
