Do Forwarded Domains Names Get Ranked?

I had this idea that I would register a domain name, forward it to an affiliate site, then use that domain in some article promotions. When I see that there is some traffic building up (from the people reading the article) I would put up some sort of squeeze page, pre-sell video or something instead of forwarding it directly to the affiliate...
My question is whether that domain name will get ranked in Google? Will it get traffic from the search engines?
