help! my site is nowhere to be found!

Can you please tell me what's going on?

My site (a month old, about 30-40 unique visits a day) was in the first page of Google's SERPs over a week ago.

About that same time, I had an article go live at Eza, bearing a link on my resource box pointing to my website, using my site's main keyword phrase as anchor text. The article landed at No. 5 in Google's SERPs, with my site at No. 7.

Yesterday, I had another article at Eza hit No. 5, pushing my previous article one notch down to No. 6. Meanwhile, the site was still at No 7.

A few hours ago, I checked and my website is nowhere to be found! Not even in the first 1oo pages!

What happened to my site? Anyone care to please enlighten me on this?

I thought that an article which is live at Eza and appearing on Google's first page of search results would help my website which is at the end of a link coming from that article. Even if this isn't totally true, I cannot for the life of me entertain the thought that the articles are the main culprits for the disappearance of my site.

I would really appreciate any opinion on this, as well as any advice , recommendation you could throw my way so I would be able to do something to bring back my site to where it was days ago.

If your relying only on your Eza articles to get your site ranked, that could be the problem. While Eza can be a great link back, it takes more than one big link back to get your site ranked up there.

Another problem that is brought on by many marketers telling you you can get your site listed in 24 hours by doing this or that, such as submitting articles. Sadly they don't tell you that those ranks are almost always temporary and short lived.

In my experience a site gets thrown in to say Google, and ranks well at the start. Then shortly after , it really evaluates your site/page and ranks it where it really should be, usually not where you'd like.

      Hi Razorblade,

Bgmacaw, is correct in saying that you have experience what some folks refer to as the "Sandbox Effect", but don't worry, you haven't done anything wrong or been penalized in any way. In fact, the exact opposite happened.

Your web page had it's ranking boosted temporarily, well above it's deserved ranking position because your page was new. It has not yet earned that higher ranking, but got a boost from the QDF factor in Google's algorithm.

The QDF (Query Deserves Freshness), or "Freshness Factor" as it's sometimes called, was added to their algorithm so that folks using Google's SE can find new information when they are looking for it. Without the freshness factor, Google's index would only return pages that have been around a long time and have earned higher positions. If you were looking for recent information you would not be able to find it without this QDF factor.

Some folks have mistakenly thought that their web page deserved the initial position that they found their new web page on. When the Freshness factor wore off, they saw their web page fall to it's truly deserved position and the speculation began about some sort of penalty. In actuality they were given a gift of a brief boost in ranking.

This is a clear sign that Google likes your content, so get busy building traffic and backlinks so you can get your page back up there.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, folks!

bgmacaw, thanks for the article link, it's a real help understanding what the Google sandbox is.

dburk, sorry if I sound like a complete dumb, but what makes you say Google likes my site inspite of what happened to it? Can you please elaborate on that a bit?

          Hi Razorblade,

Google's "Freshness Factor" gave your page a temporary boost to page 1 of the SERP (this is a good thing). They must have liked the content of your page, otherwise it never would have made it to page 1.

Of course, since your page is new, it hasn't had time yet to earn the trust needed to remain on page 1. Go to work building traffic and backlinks and you will eventually get it back onto page 1.

A good thing happened to your webpage, try not to look at it as bad. Sure it was a temporary good thing by design, but it shows you are on the right track.

There was a shift for me as well, my ranks went down a little for a short period, but like you, they are back and better than before.

It is common for newish sites to disappear from Googles index... sometimes for a couple of days, but they soon bounce back. All this means is that Google is working with your site prior to placing it back in the SERPS.

Just keep gradually building quality back links and adding new content and you'll be fine.

    Good luck!

this can be due to two cases........
    1. due to the fact that your site really do not have a single bit of unique thing to tell

    2. your site is being reviewed by google
