I've done some keyword research, and I found a domain that is available in .org and .info? Would I get better ranking if I get .org? What are your experiences?
#info #org

What they say is that #oogle was paying extra attention to .Info domains because of the amount of spamming sites using it. That ended few years ago . If your site carries information and apply to TOS you wont have any problem.

Do people really think it matters?

      I don't get it.

I don't get the amount of work one does for getting a friggin domain.
Then ignore all the rest of what's really going to mean success.

Come on people. Can we get a grip on reality?

Just get a domain and get to work!

dot org, dot com dot info, dot who cares??????????

I would get an org. If I see a .info domain when I am searching for something I pretty much never click on it because I think it is going to be junk/spammy stuff..so on that basis alone I would go for org

          HI,

I agree people(affiliate marketers to be specific) tend to associate .info sites as being spamy. But in the eyes of the search engine it is just another domain extension. Ive seen .info sites outrank .coms or .orgs in highly competitive keywords

This does beg the question, have you ever searched for info on Noam Chomsky? How about regular expressions, roman coins, craft ideas, or how to check your page rank? Maybe you've never needed to do some research to find out if New York was a sanctuary city or to find out something about New York transit. Oh, and have you thought about moving your money to a local bank before you go shopping on Black Friday?

          Hint: Google the bold keywords

            Why do we even bother?

But at least you mentioned my fav, pagerank...

Don't you have a video for this one too, Bgmacaw? So entertaining...

If you really want the new style domain, go for .co

If the .org is available, choosing the .info is something I wish all my competitors would do, all else being equal of course. The point is to stack as many cards on our side of the table as we can and the site domain is a MAJOR card for all practical purposes.

In google's eyes .info and .org are equal.

However the problem with .info websites is that it is often associated with hackers. So on a human point of view you would lose out, personally I would never click on a .info website.

it all depends upon the type of website you want to create. Decide yourself what will suit the most according to the content you are having. Having an .org will surely be a pluspoint but .info is also gud..

.info is fine if your not concerned with rankings. I have a couple where I'm not ranking but linking from sites I am ranking from to .info where I have a squeeze page portal.

If you are not ranking with "info" there sould be something wrong with your sites.

I started 2 sites few months ago one with .com other .info
they are same topic, same keywords, the only diference is one target the singular
      other the plural.

The .com has 4 pages of content, the .info has 2 pages
and they are both in Google first page for the targeted keywords.

Maybe some people don't like the .info but in Google eyes they look the same.

I would say go for any domain extension you like.It doesn't matter anyone you use.Your success depend on your optimization and backlinking.I have got good report with using a .info domain, infact they are outranking .com and even some high profile websites. It's just a generalization when people talk evil of .info domain. My experience is that it doesn't matter, just get to work instead of wasting time on domain choice.

If your site is for non profit organisation then .org would be most suitable although .org is used for wide range of websites nowadays. If your website is providing mainly information then .info would be better choice. If you feel that it is really neither one then you should arrange you keywords and keep searching to get your desired extension.

When we started our website, which main purpose was to provide information we where looking for .info extension as it made most sense as a domain name and luckily it was available. There was .org version available also so we got that as well for safe keeping. Whenever we start a new project then we always try to get 3,4 major extension if available.

As far as ranking goes then domain extension does not make any difference, what matters it your SEO effort that you are willing to put in and if you don’t use your domain for spamming then it wont be seen as spammy.

Google likes .com, .org and .net. .info is
seen as spammy, so get the .org if you can.

Stick to .org , .com and .net
These are more trustable than .info both for search engines and your visitors

      Oh Yeah!

Do you people even bother to read anything in the thread?
Or do you just cargo-on with nonsense?

Judging by the responses, we know the answer to that...

It really doesn't make a difference to the SE, but I think that people are more likely to click on a .org than a .info. It's like when you see a .com or a .ws, I am almost always clicking on the .com

I don’t really know anybody who would search on some information and then they would worry which link to click as whether it is safe or not. It is more of a case what comes first and what’s the title of the link.

If I search for something then I usually go as deep as 2-3 pages on Google and then refine my search. If I was to search, How to clean up my hard drive and there is a link with a domain name - harddrivecleanup.info , I can not see any reason why not to click on it and not only that I would be more likely to click on it as it is what I am looking for - hard drive clean up info

For regular internet user domain extension matter little, if you ask average internet user about .info extension then they associate that with information.

I really don't think it matters one way or the other when it comes to SE Rankings but for people's eyes, dot org always portrays seriousness and people will feel safe clicking on your link when they see it.

  • among one of the common factors for choosing a domain name is that your visitors and people generally would be able to remember such domain name. For instance, when mentioning a website, the first thing that comes to mind is the name of the domain. A person who is not sure of the domain name of a site can just type a word and put .com to visit the site. People use .com because it is assumed that the website must be using a .com domain name.

The same thing applies to a .org domain name. The domain extension is very common almost like a .com or .net domain. Therefore, your website can be easily visited by visitors who might not even be sure of what your website contains. A .org domain is one of the ones people visit to check if the site contains what they want. The domain is more common than a .info domain.
