Quick question about Backlinks

When checking backlinks on a competitors site do you filter out links from within the same site or do you include them?

Well you have on page SEO structure (internal links) and then you also have offpage backlinks. I generally look at off page more than onpage links.

If you are talking about more than one link from the same domain, still give those links credit.

I filter out the links from the same site because Google counts backlinks based on IP.

  I second @ChanDan's advice.
  
  Also, I would double check the Google link results with something like Majestic SEO or the SEO Moz tools to get a second opinion so to speak.
  
  Otherwise you might miss out on some links.

I think we should filter outbound links while checking competitors backlinks.
