Linkwheels, start with long tail or main keyword?

I hope this is the right forum to put this in.

I am going to have someone build some linkwheels for me,
which I have not done till now.

What keywords should be targeted? The long tail, or
your main keywords?

I imagine you could do both, with more than one set,
but to start out, what to do?

Thanks.

Hi Jeannie, I generally have my main keywords on my site then make my first tier my site keywords as well making sure I link to different pages as well. then 3rd tier add all the longtails.

    Good luck

    Jeannie,

Doing Linkwheels is a good backlinking strategy both for long tail and main keywords. But not all linkwheels have the same effect. Lets say if you get 200 1 Tier Web 2.0 links directly to your main site, then get 4000 2 Tier links to those Web 2.0 links and 10000 3 Tier links to these links, then you should focus on more competitive keywords. This will become very powerful and expensive, so you need to get return on investment.

If the number change to 50 (1 Tier), 200 (2 Tier), 1000 (3 Tier), then you can use it for long tail keywords.

Anyway, it is always best to start with long tail keywords. This will help you to see how the service is effective, then you can continue with more competitive keywords.

It kind of depends on your tolerance/patience/mindset.

If you want/need positive feedback sooner then go for an easier word. You will get results faster and with less work and the progress may spur you on.

On the other hand, if your patience/tolerance is high, go for you main word knowing that the initial linking from your link wheel may not be enough and that you may have to keep working at it for longer.

    Hope that helps.

Orkhan, that is some serious work needed for that many linkwheels. More than I want to tackle right now, but I can see how good that might be.

Thanks for the info, everyone. I think I will go for a medium or long tail keyword to start with and get the momentum going.
