How they rank in multiple keywords?

Hi, I found that some websites can rank highly (number 1) for mulitple keywords that have search volume around 10,000 per month.

How to do that?

I mean, let's say this website is for weight loss. Then it ranks number one on keyword "weight loss program", then it ranks very well on keyword "lose weight fast".

The page which ranks is the home page, not a optimized page for that specific one keyword.

Do you know how to do this?

The reason they are able to rank for multiple keywords has more to do with off page optimization. They were probably able to get a lot of backlinks with the anchortext they wanted to rank for. Simply having a ton of links with the anchortext "lose weight fast" can help you rank for that keyword even if it's not specifically in the body of your text because its still related.

jnm007a is right. This is why we see the Adobe site (get.adobe.com/reader/), for example, ranks No.1 for the keyword "click here" although this search term ain't written anywhere on the web page.

Yeah, 'click here' is not really a commercial keyword and won't give you any profit. It's just a good example of a case where a site ranks for a particular keyword solely because the keyword exists in gazillion anchor text links, pointing to the site.

It's called being an authority site. Your subpages are for other variations and
themes of the index page. Go big or go home. Can't stand the people who go
for some one or two keyword search that is just silly, then can't figure out
why they aint making shinola. It's the past, and the wave of the future.

Your anchor text for internal linking is most important. You can't possibly
come up with enough variations of the main page and anchor text backlink.
Nor should you be spending valuable time getting a ton of backlinks for
your subpages. Send 'em to your index page, build PR, it flows downhill.
