IS EACH TWEET A LINK?

HELLO:

I am trying to build backlinks to my site. I understand that when i registered to Twitter, my registration has my web site so therefore I have that one link.

I note that most tweeters when they post have a URL or e-mail as part of their signature. If I do that do I have an additional link when I tweet?

So if I tweet six times a day will that give me six more links?

And if so, do those links last as long as the tweets are online?

I am still trying to figure out all this.

Thanks

Jim

    Hi Jim,
As far as I know the links from Twitter are 'no follow' so in terms of link building I don't think you will benefit, but Twitter is obviously still a good source for attracting web traffic and publicity.

    HI

I do thank you for answering, but I hope you don't mind a follow-up. I don't understand what a "no follow" is.

And does this apply to the original registration only as well as the daily tweets? What about Facebook. i thought of them and was going to next. Are they "no follow" types also?

Thanks to all for my education.

My understanding is that a "no follow" link is one that will not be followed by Google and will not therefore help with your website rankings, as opposed to "do follow" links that will help.
I'm not too sure about Facebook links, but they are possibly "no follow" also, but please don't discount these to methods of promoting your business as they can still be hugely effective, just not for link building.
But I am sure there are many on this forum that are far more qualified than me to offer advice and clarification!

Nearly all social media and social networking sites have nofollowed links, to stop people doing exactly what you are contemplating doing.

For sites like FB and twitter, think TRAFFIC.

FB posts are not even presented in a normal html way.

The new buzzword: SMO (social media optimization).

I would also watch the number of tweets done in a normal day.
If I get 6 tweets from the same person, all within a minute, they
are un-followed in a heartbeat. I tweet roughly twice a day, at
the "optimum" times: 6am, 6pm, US eastern time.

Your tweets may show up on google results, as well as many 3rd
party sites who show tweets based on hashtags. Find a big site
that has a twitter feed based on your hastag and use it to your
        advantage.

AJAX, but some /#!/ (or "hashbang") will be crawled by Google.

SOME of the public profile pages are crawled/indexed. You can get added visibility in the SERPs but as they said all FB and Twitter links aren't going to be passing link equity. Seeing as though they both have MASSIVE amounts of users anyone using them specifically for link equity would be missing the big picture.

And your other note.. two tweets per day? You are definitely in the minority there, ay
