Would someone spin an ad on your site via google,
then help send traffic to your site?

I have a couple of theories, but they don't make sense
in the long run and they certainly defy logic.

What you mean someone else is paying for an ad and sending the traffic to your site?

If so they could have mistyped their own url.

The scenario is, they target your site via google with an ad. They
pick your site to target, get the ads to show, then send traffic
to your site. I don't want to give away too much, but I think this
may be the case. And they are paying for impression totals, maybe.

I know it sounds illogical. Just wondering if there would be any logic
behind it. Brand recognition, for one.

Probably a competitor. The extremely bad advice a while back was to create an ad and send the clicks to a competitor's page just to either a) see what kind of QS you have or b) get a good QS and then switch to their own page.

Of course, that doesn't work. When you change the landing page, you are making a new ad and therefore new history. The landing page may not follow guidelines and since you don't have control of the page and make changes to it, you're screwed and risk having your account banned.

Either that or someone is nice enough to give you free advertising.
