Help! Wordpress advice needed

I have an old wordpress blog that i'm doing some seo clean up on.

It was on the wordpress simple tags plugin and every post was tagged automatically with keywords. As you probably already know it no longer works to just spam your post with every keyword tag out there.

So I'm wondering what to do with all these posts which have like 40+ keyword tags on them?

Should I just disable the simple tags plugin and have all those old useless tags erased? Should I re-read every post and tag it accordingly? Are tags in wordpress posts even important for SEO anymore?

My other question is there a plugin I could use that would help me speed up the process of re-taggin my posts with relevant keywords? So I don't have to re-read through every post and figure out what keywords to use?

Thanks

This may be what you are looking for: WordPress › Manageable « WordPress Plugins

It's a plugin that allows you to edit all of your tags from the wordpress admin panel rather than visiting each post individually.

I would remove the plugin and probably install something like Simple Tags Plugin to mass edit the tags (or the one Kecia08 mentioned). Just follow the standard tagging format and keep it simple from this point on. If you decide to just remove them all it won't really have any effect unless you have any /tag pages indexed in the Search Engines.

Brad, that's the plugin I have. I had it set up for auto-taggin of posts. The problem is that instead of having seo optimized tags every post has like 50+ keywords (it was auto-taggin every little thing).

I'm guessing you mean this option in all in one seo

      Use Tags for META keywords:

I have the above checked so I guess I can't just delete all the tags now.
