Article Marketing SEO Question...

Hi Warriors,

I wonder if I could borrow some of your brain cells for a minute or 2? Mine are malfunctioning!

I have got a list of 5 or 6 good keywords, and on all the keywords, an ezinearticle article is ranking very high on the page, with no backlinks to it at all in Google. The other websites on the first page do not have a lot of backlinks, and although they are getting good search query volume, the keywords seem to be under-exploited.

On at least 4 of the keywords, as well as an ezinearticles page, there is also a goarticles page as well, again with no backlinks.

Now, I have a squeeze page that I want to get some traffic to, and I am thinking of trying to rank articles on the first page for these keywords and link back to my squeeze page. But my question is this....

Would you submit a keyword optimized article to ezinearticles, and then build some backlinks to it, or would you submit an article to another directory (such as articlebase) and perhaps build a couple of backlinks instead?

The reason why I ask this is, I have never seen 2 ezinearticles on the first page for the same keyword before, and I didn't know if this might be deliberate in Google's search algorithm to diversify first page results?

This is one of those questions where I know I should probably just give both methods a shot, and just do it anyway, but because of the number of articles I may need to potentially write, I find myself stuck in the neutral gear, and I need to shift into first and move forward!

Any help any SEO whizzes can lend would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers

I think I'd go with another article directory for now, ezinearticles recently has done something with the backlinks to their articles, they don't show up in Yahoo explorer anymore. Not to sure if it's worth it to backlink to them anymore.

      Hi alanfukuda,

      Cheers for the response.

I didn't know that about ezinearticles. Could you tell me where I could read a little bit more about that? Have their been any blog posts or updates on it? Or is it just something you have noticed/observed?

      Cheers

It's something observed that's happened just recently. Before getting on the "Most Viewed", "Most Published", etc. would get you thousands of backlinks and PR and sometimes help you to get ranked high just by making those lists. But I guess to many people were abusing the most viewed section so they somehow don't give credit to those backlinks anymore.

But it's not only the backlinks from the ezinearticles domain that's not showing. One of the techniques was to find articles that ranked that had only a few backlinks and decent traffic, determine the keyword that was driving the traffic. Then write an article, throw some links at it and outrank them. Those links don't seem to be showing up as well.

Hmmm, interesting. I am still seeing recent articles getting links internally from ezinearticles, but I am fairly new to this game.

I am thinking of just going with articlebase then and trying to get myarticles there linked and ranked for the selected keyword terms. Seems to be the safest bet for now, judging by what you are saying.

Honestly, I would try to get the squeeze page on to the first page of search results, not the articles. Obviously, this depends on how your squeeze page is setup. If it's just a video and opt-in form with no text, it would probably be difficult. If you can optimize the squeeze page for SE then why not do that? Only a small percentage of people that read your article will click on the link to visit your squeeze page. Increase the amount of visitors to your squeeze page by getting that to the first page.

If that's not an option, I would try the shotgun approach and see what sticks.

EZA isn't the end-all-be-all that many people think it is. It may be one of the biggest article directories, but there are plenty of other good ones out there. Here is a link of the top 50 article directories, as sorted by traffic and page rank. This list is updated every day, so you'll always have the latest information.

If I were you, I would try out some of the other top directories. Once your article is published, bookmark the link on several sites. You can use socialmarker.com to speed up the process (no relation to them; I'm just a happy user)

That being said, I don't know why you would only have 1 EZA listing on a Google results page. Just because 2 articles are targeting the same keyword doesn't mean that the articles are the same.

No matter what you decide to do, just keep publishing good content. If you've got quality information that's properly optimized to include good keywords, you will see success. Good luck!

Really appreciate all the info and input guys. In particular the vre link for article directories. I had seen it before, but lost the link. It's bookmarked now. I like the fact it is updated regularly.

In response to Open Cobra, ideally I'd like to rank my squeeze page, but it really isn't built for SEO, offers little to no written content as id designed purely for conversion, so I am trying to direct traffic to it on the cheap (financially) as my budgets are tight at the minute. Appreciate the opinion though, and totally agree with what you say.

I've seen two EZA articles on page one many times but never more than two. If the keword is that wide open I would submit articles to 3 or 4 top directories and backlink the hell out of all of them.

Personally, I would diversify between different article directories and have all of the resource links pointing to my site and try to rank it. The reason being is that you have full control over the content of your site with no restrictions.

I go along with thebitbotdotcom in this regard.

While there are short term gains to be made in view of the leverage you get from the high ranked article directories like ezinearticles when you massively and painstakingly backlink to your content on their sites, one should note that your business is in for the long haul and so should also consider the medium to long term.

In this regard, this article is very relevant and explanatory

I think Article Marketing is one of the best ways to generate a ton of links, and quality links if used properly.

My approach to article marketing has been where I try to get my articles syndicated and picked up by other webmasters, rather than trying to get a keyword rich article and placing it in the article directories.

If you want a massive amount of quality links, than use Article directories for its main purpose, which is a article brokering free service where other webmasters can visit and pick up content to place on their website. After you find webmasters picking up your content and placing it on their website, than contact them and provide them more articles in exchange for links back to your website.

Great way to build links, and using leverage to generate even more links.

Article submissions are writing content for article sites following their guidelines to either promote your website or your products, while article sites get content for free the article submitters get free promotion by way of traffic or backlinks to your websites. Promotions can help in sales of your products and backlinks can help in gaining search engines rankings for your websites ultimately resulting in more traffic from search engines.

ezinearticles is a good article directory but its clear that it doesn't rank high for all or most keywords on Google. The articles that have a lot of backlinks and are written optimized are eligible to rank high in search engines not all article. In some cases its better that you choice another article directory or source for making backlinks.

For me GoArticles really seem to prosper from Backlinks, so I'd try putting a couple articles there as well. But I would really concentrate on getting your squeeze page in the top 10. Get people directly there instead of relying on a clickthrough.

I guess the best thing to do in this situation is not be to reliant on just one source of backlinks such as ezines. Just diversify and you'll minimise your risk in this particular case.

Search is the only type of marketing where customers come looking for your site. Getting your website on to the first page of Google search results, is a difficult task. Strategy is very important to lead it in a successful path for a newly created website.
