Hi

I have a mate who has just opened his new ecommerce website. We where talking about SEO and how he is going to go about site traffic.

He said that one of the best methods he has employed is to simply use adwords.

It didnt make sense to me at first.

But now it makes perfect sense and his results are proven.

The previous website he was working on, he had used adwords for keywords related to "Rain Water Tanks", "Water Tanks" and "Water Tanks Melbourne" all for geo location Melbourne, Australia.

When i did my research, i found under keyword "Water Tanks" his result is 2nd, Under "Rain Water Tanks Melbourne" he is 3rd and under "Water Tanks Melbourne" he is also 3rd.

Obviously his strategy works. Why it doesnt work best, no 1 position? Im not sure. And the price he paid? A lot! A hell of a lot! He says he used around $5000 a month worth of adwords for that particular site.

Now he is going to do it all again with a new site he is working on, i know for a fact he will want to limit his investment because this new site is actually his where as the previous one he was just employed for.

I see his plan, and i see it works, however i think return on investment he could do much better employing other strategies, only im not sure what to recommend him. Anyone got any ideas?

Adwords and SEO are two different things. You can't increase organic rankings using Adwords.

Using the Google Adwords Keyword tool, is a good way to research keywords for your niche, and for your friends site the keywords - water tanks and water tanks melbourne would probably have little competing sites.

Starting an Adwords campaign will let Google know where your site is, but spending that amount of money / month is a sure way to go broke unless his business did well.

An adwords campaign does not add to strategic and intelligent SEO practise.

Please go to wikipedia and find the definition of SEO and explain how that relates to adwords please. Adwords is PAID TRAFFIC, SEO, is free and organic. SEO deals with meta tags, website content, etc. SEO deals with the actual words contained in your website. Adsense has NOTHING to do with SEO. I could have a website for my local church and pay for adsense keywords dealing with porn. My ad will show up as porn on google adsese because im bidding on porn keywords but when the user clicks on my site, it will be a church website, does that make sense? Seo and ppc (adsense) are different. Obviously you want your ppc and seo to be on the same niche, etc.

another difference is ppc is instant traffic, where as seo is long and gradual. Jon Volk loves ppc, because its instant traffic and he can quicky see if a niche is doing good and worth it.. jjust youtube his name and watch some of his vids..

    Good luck bro

I'm no SEM expert, but word 'round the streets is that adwords is expensive.
Why don't you kick off with some organic SEO first?

Google AdWords campaign will help you improve your sites visibility and more traffic to your website. Select the keywords that were the focus of the text content of the page, and walked with a monthly price of frames and more clicks.

      Hold up dudes.

It aint me its my friend.

His theory is that after a certain amount of time of being in the top spot via adwords people will naturally start linking to you.I guess he is rightcos his results are proven.

However his results are very expensive

Now what HE will want to do is lower his costs on his next site. I know this. So im talking to him about articles and link wheels but i think because he is pretty busy he wants a one stop seo shop so to speak.

I recommended linkvine, but he said no because its too much work to write the articles???

Can anyone recommend a good seo service for this guy, if you cant post the link here then PM me.

PPC advertising can help you to drive easy traffic for your website specially if your website is new. Because SEO takes some months to get results. But you can't always use PPC advertising if you don't have high budget. Traffic you make through SEO is always free but as i said, it takes some months to give result to you.

I'd tell your buddy to invest a majority of his money in SEO as it'll bring in more traffic in the long run and built equity in the site.
