Renaming Amazon Images for SEO

Whenever I want to grab an image to link to an amazon product they always give it some big arbitrary name, but the image is hosted on my domain. So is there any problem with renaming these (and obviously changing the html code to match) to something that would be more seo friendly? I don't see how it could screw up the tracking info.

That would make a nice idea.I don't think it would affect your tracking as long as you change only the image alt

  It's a good idea to change your images to something meaningful (using your specific keyword). And no, it won't screw up your tracking code. You can easily verify this by clicking the ad (image) on your site and checking your tracking stats.

What I did for one of my sites was save the product images and host them myself, then use:

<a href="http://amazon.com/affiliatestufffortheproduct/"><img alt="related keywords" src="http://domain.com/imageshere" /> Product Name / Price</a>

That was I control the what is said about the product and what exactly they are called. If you don't want the image to be clickable, just wrap the <a href=""> tags around the words only and not the image.

I think its better than using the original name of images. But you should test it to see if doing it make problem for you? However i think you will not faced problems, but test it yourself too.
