Confirm and Verify Google Pagerank?

Hi guys,

I am doing some SEO at the minute for a client, and I have been in touch with a webmaster.

This particular webmaster has a ton of websites with pagerank 3's, 4's and 5's. Some of these websites have no links to them at all, and some of the pagerank 4 properties have a low amount of links (157 links).

I don't know this guy, and I am just being a little cautious. He seems keen to sell some links to us for a good practice, but I need to make sure this is legit, and I know it is possible to fake pagerank.

I have checked backlinks, and I have ran a info:websitename search on google (and his website shows up which is a good thing).

Does anyone know the most accurate way to check pagerank though, via a search query or via a reliable piece of software? I know nothing is ever going to be 100%, but I'd like to be as sure as possible. If anyone can offer any help, I'd be ridiculously grateful!

      Hi EndGame,

PageRank can not only be faked, it can also be volatile. When a page has a fair amount of PR, but few links, its' PR is likely derived from just one or two high value backlinks. If anything happens to those crucial links then, "poof" the PR is gone.

If you want to know how reliable the PR is for a page then you need to look at the page's backlinks. When you understand the source of those backlinks you will have a better idea of how reliable the PR is for that page.
