I've been doing blog commenting to get back links and I was just wondering if I should be pinging other peoples blogs when I comment on them? What do you guys think?

    Well here is a thought for you. I assume your not just commenting in MASS on all types of blogs. Your doing it on blogs related to your website and you want them to keep your links on the site. So here is what I would do;

    My comment: Love you post etc etc. here is my opinion on what you have said etc etc (a quality comment, you get what I am saying)

    Then at the end of you comment, remark how you have bookmarked their post in your favorite bookmarking site. (I also twitter the links) Then ping that post as well.

    You do three things by doing that. One, you have better luck getting your link on the page and it actually staying there. Two, you increase the relevancy of the page you comment is on, thus increasing its SERP rating and PR. Three, that increase in PR is passed on to your site via its now increased relevancy.

    Its a win/win for everyone and doesn't really take that much time at all on your part so what do you have to loose.

    Hope that helps

    Regards,

      Well, that's nice of you... I have learned this new technique here...

      But the blog owner doesn't know that his/her site was ping by you... Do you need to tell them that you have ping their blog/site in order for you post to be accepted?

    Good info.

    I delete a high number of comments from our blogs as they are either a 1/2 word comment, affiliate link or total rubbish. Why go to the effort of commenting when the comments has a high risk of being deleted with the possibilty of backlinks lost.

    I would not ping the blog the day the comment was made but would definitely ping in once every few days over the next two weeks

    only ping once, same as rss submissions.

    Clint, that's awesome advice on blog commenting...

    I agree Clint - great advice thanks! I must admit I had never thought about doing anything to improve the backlinks of blog comments but it certainly makes sense!

      Actually, it can. If you over-ping a page/domain you will get the engines to start ignoring it.
