I try several of the different Free checkers and they all come back with something different.
Yahoo is showing several backlinks for my site but Google shows 0. I have several out there and dont understand why Google shows 0. What is the best way to check for backlinks as well as getting Google to notice?
I thought that eventually that Google would find these.

You should check your backlinks in Google webmaster tools not by searching link:yourwebsite.com on Google. Did you check your backlinks in Google webmaster tools?

You're risking analysis paralysis. Don't worry too much about checking backlink counts right now. Instead, concentrate on getting the best and most links you can to your site(s).

Yahoo, and tools using it, will give you a decent estimate of the links you have. Treat it like an estimate, not an exact number. You don't want to be fretting over something like "Oh, today I have 21 links but I built 25. Why aren't those other 4 links showing up! Have I been penalized!?"

bgmacaw is right you are only focusing on your backlinks try to pay attention to your link building activities this will benefit you more, Its normal to google that it is not showing all of your backlinks.

I think Google Webmaster Tools gives a pretty accurate count.

I agree with bgmacaw. There are no really good link checking tools anyways. Yahoo site explorer seems to be a favorite amoung SEOers, but even that is a bunch of crap.

I have a site that has less backlinks in Yahoo now then I did when it had 1/5th the traffic. Since then I have built many more backlinks and it shows in rankings, but it doesn't show through any backlink checking tool that I'm aware of.

With Google having the lions share of the search market all the hype about back links and with the attention that I have been putting towards back links I just thought that I would check to see if the Google Gods were appreciative and I was a little let down when Google was showing 0 links but Yahoo was showing 30.
I guess that I really should be also focusing on the social aspect more now.

Thanks for all that gave me a little of your time to respond.

It's been said a few times here... don't!

You're wasting your time worrying about it when you should simply be moving forward and creating more. None of the tools out there report all the backlinks, but SEO Spyglass is probably the closest... even still, it's a factor not worth measuring!

The real power of SEO Spyglass is evaluating your competitor backlinks...

In terms of getting your backlinks noticed, there are quite a few different options. I personally use a product called backlink index express, which works great.

    Cheers,
    Carney

I am using webmaster tools and yahoo sometimes, but they are uding different algorithms to calculate your links, that's why the results are different. Anyway you cannot trust any of them because Search Engines (Google) don't wont you to know the exact number of links you are having and don't want you to be able to compare the competitor's links.
