A lot of them do mess you about, but then again, sometimes sites are down, load slow etc..

To eliminate the doubt from my mind I do this.

1. rent a windows server (I got mine with good specs, £70/mo for dual xeons, 4gb ram, 100mb line, unlimited bandwidth -- this lets me run all my software super fast at full threads)
2. Create additional standard user accounts on server (control panel --> users)
3. Add them to remote desktop group (computer properties --> remote). This allows you to remote access any of the desktops simultaneously. You can have several people working on the same server at the same time.
4. Open a remote desktop connection to the desktop you want your worker to use then load teamviewer (download from teamviewer.com). This allows them to access the server desktop and work on this instead of their own desktop.

Benefits of this:

- I can watch their screen and make sure they are working
- I can have software on server they can use without having to buy it for them
- I can use server for other things like hosting sites and running other software
- I am not giving out any passwords etc to protected systems. If they need access to something I can just grab their desktop and log them in without giving them the password.

I have setup a few old pc's in corner of room that I leave logged into the desktops so I can glance over from time to time to make sure they are working. Although, when I am on my laptop I just open them all and leave them in background. you can resize windows to small but if you minimize them it locks teamviewer.

When I interview people I load up teamviewer and get them to log in and do a few things to make sure they have got a good internet connection. Problem with philippines is that due to flooding/poor broadband availability most people use mobile broadband dongles which are not suitable for this. Thats why my VA's are in pakistan/india as they seem to get better connection speeds.

PS. remember to change screensaver settings as screen saver kicks you out of remote desktop.

PPS. Look in review section for SENuke. Also, if you dont understand properly the process involved then you are jumping the gun by hiring someone. Find someone to teach you the best way of doing things so you can manage your employees properly and not get taken for a ride or end up not even knowing if they are doing good work or not

I just get a good team of backlink pros on ODesk or backlinkteam and get them to build manual backlinks with anchortext. I also have them vary the types of links, keywords, and make sure i stay consistent in my link building to account for link attrition. I use a lot of blog and forum comments to help drive quality traffic as well. Hope that helps.
