Anyone doing FB ads right now. It is a lot cheaper than Adwords - but I can't break 1% CTR. I've read other experts' blogs and they are admitting that they can't hit the 1% mark neither.

Just wondering if anyone is having success with this...

    Hi bigcat1967,

I wrote a post on this a while back sharing some "secrets" and tips on how to lower your CPC and raise your CTR using Facebook ads. I have done a lot of testing on the subject so the info is LEGIT.

Looking forward to reading your comments in the comment section as well.

    Hope it will help.

The conversions suck compared to Google or any search ads. People aren't in buy mode when they are on facebook.

I think they need to really develop there own search engine to really make it work.

        That is 100% correct.

Your ads on Facebook appear while the user is simply surfing or doing something else.

On Google, the users are actually searching for information, and are much more likely to click and buy.

Just because I am a member of the cheeseburger group on Facebook doesn't mean I want to order cheeseburgers when I am trying to play Farmville!

On the flipside, if I see your ad in Google search, it's there because I am actively searching for "cheeseburgers" on Google.

Facebook is a very different reality for advertisers. It can work well but you have to understand the mindset of your customer-base. Under 1% conversion-rate shows that you aren't on the same wavelength as your customers.

A free tweet on a twitter account with a decent number of followers
will get a much higher CTR. Study after study reveals twitter beats
facebook hands down. Maybe it does have to do with that facebook
social thing. While twitter is social as well, it is geared more for IM.

Can't say at even a low price it's worth much effort. So, if you can
do it with little effort and little money, who knows.

I prefer Adwords ads. Facebook users are not targeted for many businesses. I always use Adwords.

Do not expect high CTR from FB or other social networks. People are not there to buy simply, so even if they click you should not expect a conversion to sale, really.

And therefore their ads are cheap.

Facebook is to me what a bunch of garlic is to a vampire. I usually avoid it as all costs but I am planning on doing some advertisng there so want to learn how it works.

Is there an easy way to see who is advertising on there already and see if my competitors are there and what they are doing?

Faceboook is great for targetted advertising, and moreso branding. If you want to brand your company or site you can get thousands of impressions for peanuts, and the interested ones will click through, and if they give your site a like, the residual traffic from their friends will trickle over. That has been our experience. We just did a video blog post talking about this on our site. See me signature and watch. Go to the Blog section and watch The Facebook Like Button.

That's because FB ads is a completely different animal than AdWords. Doesn't mean it doesn't work... just means you need to adjust your mindset and strategy to the platform.

Facebook either has a very low inventory of ads and that's why they cycle through the limited number of available but irrelevant ads or the ad targeting model is fundamentally flawed. In either case, I seriously doubt that advertising on Facebook is any more effective than other advertising options like paid search or contextual ads on traditional sites.

Facebook advertising does have some troubles such as there is no conversion tracking option and undoubtedly AdWords is great for this. Also, there is no ability to show ads at a particular time of the day. Business-to-business advertising also becomes less likely on Facebook (keeping the friends' social networking concept in mind).

If you are using Google AdWords or any other paid search platform, it will be a great idea to try Facebook ads. You will be surprised by the outcome and scope.
