I was wondering do you put your keywords in quotes? if your site pops up after searching for your keyword in quotes are you on google page 1 or is it better if your site pops up without the quotes? When I put the site in my sig in quotes...I'm on page one...but I like hardly have any backlinks. Have I accomplished something?

Also my site was named without the "www" so I just changed it yesterday so it could show up with the "www" so technically I have to start backlinking all over again correct?

Your website will basically come in search results if it is unique name. but getting your site which is having keywords in first page is really difficult. Take an example of my website seostores It takes really good amount of time to bring in top pages of search engines

You didn't accomplish much...as Andy said...people don't typically use quotes for common searches.

Also, what was the purpose of changing your URL to include the www? The non-www and www versions are treated as separate sites. You should do a 301 redirect from the non www to the www url. Link popularity should pass through if you do a 301.

    Hi Kea55
Go to google and search for your keywords. If your site comes up on the first page then your on the first page. Just make sure your on google.com or whatever local google homepage your trying to rank on. You dont need to search in quotes.

I might be wrong but I think you have to clear your cookies first and log out of your google account if you use google stats, otherwise you won´t get real results. I didn´t do this and my site showed up among the first spots for a couple of keywords I was targenting - when I logged out of my google account it was nowhere to be found, or way down...

That's right, you have to log out. Google tailors search results so you're going to show up higher on the list if you're logged in than you actually are.

Pro tip: instead of logging out, just hit control shift p if you are using Mozilla Firefox. Works like a charm.

Search "301 redirect" in Google -webconfs.com should come up first. Follow the instructions for "Redirect to www (htaccess redirect)"

You should be able to do a redirect from C-panel of your hosting account. If your hosting account has c-panel just look for Domains > Redirects. That should set you up a permanent 301 redirect.

If you put your site in quotes and you see it as number one that doesn't mean you're actually number one. When you see your site without quotes that's when you're number one.
