keyword in url question

As I understand it having the keyword i am trying to rank for somewhere in my url helps me rank for that particular keyword. But does it affect rankings if there are other words or phrases other than the keyword in the url?
Example: Ideally for a hypothetical site ranking for a keyword my url would look something like this: www.mysite.com/mykeyword/
Thats straight forward but sometimes on certain platforms where one might using siloing to organize their articles it might look like:
www.mysite.com/category/1subject/mykeyword/
Does it matter that "category" and my category name "1subject" are included in the url? I am confused as to whether this has any effect on ranking or not.
