Site Growth Question For Wordpress Users

I have started my first wordpress site (used xsitepro for my others) but am curious at how wordpress changes in functionality once there are hundreds or even thousands of posts.
I have already found a few small glitches within my current wordpress build. This worries me as I just did a simple post. For you warriors that have experience with wordpress sites of 100+ posts how is the functionality of the site affected? More glitches?
Also, I enjoy the fact that wordpress allows you to work on your site on a hosted server. What other site building software installs onto a host server similar to wordpress?
