What kind of site are you talking about? A HTML/CSS site or a site based on a CMS like Joomla or Drupal?

That's my specialty! Sure I can SEO out Wordpress (PHP), but I feel more comfortable writing, editing, and working with HTML/CSS sites! I like to get my hands in the code!!

  • You can use the same methods you use in wordpress.
in wordpress it is easier because you have plugins to do everything but for normal websites you need to know good programming for onpage SEo and off page SEO is same for both.

Exactly. There are some great plugins available that will do the SEO for on wordpress/blog/php/mysql type sites.

I can do what I want with php and edit everything to my specifications but it takes longer and HTML is a very simple language that I comprehend. I'm very anal about how everything looks on my sites (including the code). I personally think it is easier to optimize HTML for search engines - that's just my opinion, b/c like I said I'm better with it.

      What's the site PM me.

WP is well optimized and interlinked already and with a plugin it's a piece of cake.

Don't mean to hijack here but are you saying that by adding a certain plugin it will help your seo so you can rank better in search engines?

There are plug-ins for CMS platforms like Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, Mambo, etc. that automate most of the on-page SEO.

The META keywords element does not determine the keywords you're targeting.
It was decommissioned years ago and is now a relic, which only serves to tell you competition which keywords it is that you're targeting.

The META description tag however, is still active and important.

        - As Jason suggests, modifying your title is a good idea.
        - Inserting keywords into H1 and H2 is also a good idea.
        - Cross linking pages with keywords as anchor text within your regular page text is another good idea.
        - Making keywords bold is a good idea too.

        Other stuff:
        - Your website is missing a META description tag (ensure that these are different for each page and contain your keywords)
        - None of your page titles are descriptive enough
        - You have no sitemap
        - You haven't done any offpage SEO, but I'm sure you know that (no inbound links)

Your website is built in PHP, by the way.

I took a quick look at the site in question and one thing I noticed right away in the source code is that there are WAY too many keywords in the keywords meta. Too many keywords dilute the relevancy of any of the keyword phrases to the page and you can end up not ranking well for any of them. I would recommend taking only a handful of the most relevant phrases for each page and leave those in the meta area. Another thing I would recommend is to modify the page titles to reflect your main keyword phrase/phrases per page. I would limit it to only a couple phrases in the page title area that are relevant to each other and the on page content. Tip: after a quick look with the Google keyword tool, the page title phrase on the home page 'New York City Home Inspection' is not searched for often. I haven't spent much time researching any related phrases but in just looking at this one you may look at using 'NYC Home Inspection' or 'Home Inspection NYC' along with another phrase. Example: 'NYC Home Inspection | Home Inspection New York City' .

Obviously making these changes depends a lot on the platform the site was built on. If the site was created with some sort of site builder you may be able to make these changes relatively easily as some allow you to populate the meta info fields per page. If not you will need a knowledge of ftp and know how to download each page, modify, and upload.

These are only a couple of recommendations to help you decide as to whether or not you should take this one on - these tips won't be all you need.

    Hope that helps,

    Jason
