How do you rank for the same keyword with different endings?

I have asked this before I just want to make sure this is right. Currently my main keyword is ranking #2 and should soon be number one. But now google instant is messing it up and I also need to rank for the same keyword with an -s ending an an -ing ending as well. For those searches they are in the 6-8 position and haven't really moved for a while. Should I be doing anything on page for that or just keep building backlinks with the other 2 endings?

build backlinks with all 3 terms.
I give my main keyword 60%
    2nd keyword 30%
    3rd keyword 10%

In the article submission service I use where we can spin the text I use up to 10 different keywords. My main keyword is used every 2nd article and the other terms are used once every 10 article submissions.

edit and adding several sentences with "s" and "ing" to your content (onpage), and keep building link to that specific page with previous anchor text, anchor text with "s" and achor text with "ing"

      you will be fine

I suggest you to concentrate on main keyword firstly to don't loss your current position and also start optimizing for those other keywords which are ending to s and ing. I think ranking for these keywords according to the good position of your website for main keyword is not difficult.
