Warriors, the game has changed since I last dabbled in IM. MNF is showing fewer searches and lower CPCs for most ideas I used to have.
There are still several low competition/high CPC niches out there tho! My question to you all is, if a keyword has a CPC of $10, what kind of search volume would you consider worthwhile before putting a site together?

Thanks.

I personally aim for a volume of at least 3000/mo when choosing my kw phrases. Of course, a lot of the decision comes down to who I'm up against in the Rankings. If there is more competition / authority sites that I have to outrank, I might aim for a volume of 5k or even more. If very little competition, sometimes even less than 3k.

I like to work backwards. You have to work out how much work is needed to get the site ranking number 1 and ho wlong it will take - is it worth it for the traffic it will provide?

If you get to the #1 spot expect to see about 40-50% of the searched traffic. From here work out the number fo clicks you expect...say a 5% CTR to be safe. Work out a realistive average CPC. A $10 CPC is nice in theory but those are people bidding probably on the exact phrase on the search network. Check the theme/niche in general and see what the CPC is across a wide range of the keywords.

A quoted $10CPC might actually get you only $1 CPC as an Adsense publisher.

If you want to make $10 per day you will need 10 clicks. 10 clicks at a CTR of 5% = 200 visitors. 200 visitors for a keyword ranked #1 needs 500 searches per day OR 15,000 per month.

3000 searches per month will only get you $2/day (@ a 5% CTR).
