SEO - Google position for a keyword question

I have a question for the SEO experts in here. I have niche site that has been all over the board in google position for one keyword. The site started at #61 in google for this keyword. It jumped up to #42 then it magically jumped up to #4 (page 1) one day. I think this was because I started my backlink and article marketing campaign the previous day. next day it dropped to #25, and then #23, #18, and now #20.

I know google looks at your browsing history and considers that with what it shows you for a keyword search. However, I clear my cache when ever i check my position ranking for this search term. Also I use scroogle.org, which seem pretty consitent since it hides my browsing history from google.

This site has only been up since thanksgiving and I am working backlinks and article marketing, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me why it jumps around. Should I spread out my backlinking efforts? I am using link juice (15 links per day) and unique article wizard (50 articles per day) with their default settings. Could this be hurting me? should lower these numbers?

This is the infamous google tango. Your efforts and the newness of your site are causing the position to jump up and down and will continue to do so for a while - eventually it will settle and be more predictable. Give it 4 weeks or so. Brand new sites that get lots of link love right away can really boogie around in google, which can be frustrating to the more results oriented among us. It will stop bouncing all over, trust me on that.

I use market samurai to do any rank or competition checking, and I highly recommend that software (not an affiliate at all btw ) But if I'm really lazy I use pagewash.com to quickly unskew my data. Looking for your position in your personalized google account (or even the version that pops up after you've signed out) is an exercise in futility for sure. Skewed results a-plenty when you fail to cleanse your presence from the almighty google .
