I have been blogging for about 8 months and have made many comments on do follow blogs yet my Alexa ranking only shows four incoming links? Why is that? I thought that you got backlinks with commenting on do follow blogs. What am I doing wrong?

Some links don't get indexed, some do get indexed by they don't show up. Anyway, commenting on dofollow blogs alone is a pretty bad strategy to get backlinks. Those links don't carry a lot of juice.

      Thank you Eduard,
That makes sense. Yes, I am also trying to gain more backlinks through a WSO that I signed up for on Monday. I look forward to seeing the results. I could use all of the help and guidance I can get. :-)

I find the Yahoo Site Explorer to be a better gauge of the backlinks to a given site. Also, this is a moving target that varies from moment to moment.

Alexa is probably the worst place to check your backlinks.

I would check out these two:

I often use Yahoo site explorer, it gives you a quite good view of how many backlinks you have and from where they come.It is also a good tool to "spy" on your competition.

    Hey guys,
Thank you so much!!! I just checked using the two sites Mike suggested. Site explorer says pages (1) and inlinks (352). When I click on the inlinks it shows blogs that I have comment on however I have not made 352 comments. I am confused on how to interpret this. Please help.

    Thank you

Use Yahoo to check how many backlinks your number one competition has. Gives you something to aim for.

I just use Alexa for the ranking figure for mt site, again something to aim for, a knd of challenge.

If your only doing one type of link you wont get very far. You should hire a team on ODesk or go to backlinkteam.com and buy a link package as they only build manual backlinks and vary the types of links and the keywords in the anchor text. Hope that helps.

Alexa is just to check the traffic of a website (though I don't think it is accurate). For backlink count you may use your webmaster tools account. You can see the list of backlinks indexed by Google for your blog.

Alexa Rank increases depending on the volume of traffic your website is getting. You may check your backlinks manually or you may automated backlink checker like BacklinkWatch.

Most people don't know how Alexa really works. Alexa only ranks websites by the number of visits they get by people using the Alexa toolbar and some other internet toolbars. If a visitor has no toolbar, the visit does not count. There is no way to fake Alexa traffic or get ranked higher without real visits.

Here is the best way to get ranked higher in Alexa.

      1. Do a Google search for the keyword you want to rank for.

      2. Find the first url that is ranked on the first page (other than Wiki and How to) copy the url and go to Alexa.com

      3. Enter the url in Alexa and hit enter, click on the number right under Reputation.

      4. Look at the sites linking to the url that is ranked for your keyword.

      5. Create backlinks on those sites for your keyword.

Takes a while for them to show up on Alexa sometimes.

Mine shows 6 now and one was made many months ago and just showed a few days ago.
