Something's NOT right with Backlinking!

I understand that there are different ways to build backlinks.

1. Some use SEO: blogging, forum posting, article submission, etc.
2. Buy backlinks
3. Linkwheels

But how do you do these? How does it work? Is it a bad idea to get too many backlinks too fast? I have so many questions for this topic. I tried searching the forum, but got lots of WSO. I am just looking for info. Like a "backlinking for dummies" type thing.

Does every post on a forum creates a backlink?
Does every link from one site back to my site creates a backlink?
Does every article submitted linking to my site creates a backlink?
Does Social Bookmarking my site create a backlink?

What is the BEST way to create QUALITY backlinks? Linkwheels, SEO stuff. I am trying to get a better ranking for more traffic. I have a new site up with very little backlinks. I'd like to increase it. I am just trying to fully understand this.

Thanks.

First of all you need to know that not every backlink is the same. Sure backlink from very authority page will have weight of many BL from some forum postings.

Does every post on a forum creates a backlink?

    - Yes if there is different url where is posted.

Does every link from one site back to my site creates a backlink?
Does every article submitted linking to my site creates a backlink?
    - Yes (as I understand you ask same question in both?)

Does Social Bookmarking my site create a backlink?
    - Yes

Try to post articles (good content!) on Squidoo and Hubpages. Google love them because:
    - they have rules and that mean there is no **** content so Google 'think' that backlinks from there are good
    - page itself has got PR6+
    - you will get traffic from people reading articles directly to your page (links in content - do not post them too spammy!)

the best backlink is one from a high PR "page rank" authority site. For example if you're in health and wellness a good baclink would be from webmd

And there are numerous ways to get backlinks for example articles, forum posts, blog comments, business directories ect ect ect

and if you're looking for good places to get some just go to google and type in

    "high pr"

then it will finish your sentence with many different types of areas to get high pr backlinks

      Wow, where to begin...

Backlinking is a HUGE topic. If Internet marketing is ever taught in schools backlinking will be a book on its own.

      To answer your questions directly:

Is it a bad idea to get too many backlinks too fast?

Yes it is. If a Google-bot see's that one day you have 0 back links, and the next you have 1000 it may penalise you in a number of ways. Look into link dripping. This is the best and safest way of backlinking.

Does every post on a forum creates a backlink?

Yes I use several free backlink checkers online and ALWAYS notice my warrior forum sigs show up. Thanks warrior forum!!!!!! But do remember to use anchor text and make sure your link is correctly formatted.

Does every link from one site back to my site creates a backlink?

No. The site has to allow following. Some sites have "Nofollow" inserts ion their site code specifically so that internet marketers do not spam their site. Please see: nofollow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does every article submitted linking to my site creates a backlink?

Yes. Article sites want people to submit articles. They entice you by allowing you to post links. Its a win/win.

Does Social Bookmarking my site create a backlink?

      Yes. Same as above.

What is the BEST way to create QUALITY backlinks?

Organic backlinks are the best way. The most commone way to get these is to create great content, provide something people want to share. However this can be slow from a marketers perspective. Most of us here use tools, link packets, social bookmarking, articles, blogging, etc.

I didnt answer your first questions because the answers would be too long. Hope this helps.

No please, what you have said can just be compiled into 2 words : on-page SEO (ok maybe 3 words)

and OP can just download a free tool like Traffic Travis or SEO Power website auditor to check it... dont pay for these kind of things!

Even if you already have someone who is taking care of your SEO for your website, it is good to have an SEO Audit done at least every 6 months to make sure that your website is performing the way it should: and having someone take a look at your website for search engine optimization issues that your SEO may have missed can be a good thing. In this blog post, I'm going to give you several tips that can help you during an SEO Audit.

The first step in your Search Engine Optimization Plan should include an SEO Audit. Taking this step will at the very least provide you comfort that your on-site search engine ranking factors are satisfactory and at best can provide a list of errors that when rectified, dramatically improve rankings for your entire site.

Here are the top 5 SEO Audit Quick Tips:

      1. 404 errors - The top item we see in seo audits is 404 errors. A 404 error indicates that the server could not find what was requested. This includes broken links to other web pages (both internal and external) as well as images and documents on your page that cannot be found. When Google sees these errors, your website gets penalized. This penalty is more severe the less trust your domain has, so newer sites and smaller sites have the most to worry about here.

      2. Repetitive Title Tags - An SEO Best Practice is to ensure every page on your website has a unique title tag. Repetitive title tags will cause Google to believe the page is dynamically generated and/or spammy. You definitely want to make sure all title tags are unique.

      3. Improper url strings - URL strings should be clean, concise and target the appropriate keyword phrase. URL strings with special characters such as question marks, ampersands, equal signs, etc. In an effort to be efficient, search engine spiders develop a risk profile for a sites crawlability, and these special characters increase your sites perceived risk. The spiders do not want to risk getting caught up in an infinite loop within the website.

      4. Website Structure Review - Your SEO audit should help you determine if you have the proper website structure that facilitates higher rankings for your targeted keywords. This includes determining which pages will target which keywords. This is especially important in cases where most of your web traffic is initiated online. For example, if you have a local site that provides information on restaurants, hotels, and social activities in Dallas, then you want to make sure you have the proper structure to facilitate the placement of the relevant keywords. In this example, lets say you want to optimize for dallas hotel, dallas hotels, dallas motel, dallas motels, cheap dallas hotel, cheap dallas hotels, cheap dallas motels. In this example, your decision is pretty straight forward. You simply need to decide if you want to include dallas hotels AND dallas motels on the same page (which will mean you will be optimizing that page for both terms as well as all relevant terms for each) or include dallas hotels on one page, and dallas motels on a different page.

As you can see, this gets significantly more complex when including 50 other nearby cities such as Fort Worth, Arlington, Garland, and Mesquite.

      5. External CSS File - The CSS code should be in an external .css file on the site. If the css is included in the html file, Google has to work harder to find the actual content, which is not a good thing if you care about rankings.

During a proper SEO Audit, I personally tend to want review all of the search engine ranking factors and about another 200 or so specific items that can lead to better search engine rankings and more targeted traffic from the search engines. This is only a list of five of these items. Depending on the size of the website, an SEO Audit can take anywhere a few hours to several days to complete.

You can do all those things that you listed. But honestly, I would start trying to get some quality links mixed in there as well. You don't have to mess around with trying to keep the pages indexed, they are generally written in context, and they have some PR typically.

I know you are just looking for info, but I would highly suggest picking up a WSO on backlinking. It will cost you a few dollars, but it will save you a ton of time and money. Just look around the WSO section and choose whatever is highly rated and/or looks good to you.

Backlinking is such a huge topic that you aren't going to get a comprehensive answer in a forum post.

Most folks who get into seo spend all their time debating the difference in seo tactics. While the folks grabbing the most page one rankings are the ones who pay no attention to the debates because they're out spending their time actually creating backlinks.

The bottom line in seo is this. The more links you can get pointing to your site from unique IP's the more your rankings are going to increase.

I would urge people to read as many threads in this forum as they can find so that they can get as clear a picture as possible. Certain things regarding backlinking and SEO will remain a bit of a mystery because no one really knows how Googles algos work.

Some people say don't waste your time with "no follow" links because they are worthless. Others will say that no follow links won't boost your sites PR but will in fact help you rank higher in the serps.

Some people say you should get "relevant backlinks" or links from sites with a similar theme to your own. Others say that relevance is irrelevant and any backlink from any site to your site helps.

Some people will say not to build links too fast because you can get penalized (B.S. by the way) others say that there is no penalty for building links too quickly but that link velocity is important. Link velocity simply means to keep your link building at a somewhat consistent pace. Don't put up 1000 links one day and then none for a couple of weeks etc. It's best to build links consistently.

The more threads you read, the more differing opinions you will hear but it's a good idea to get both sides of any argument. When you've read a lot of threads on the subject you will see the same people posting over and over. It's up to you to decide who's advice is worth taking and who you should ignore.

Of course it's also best to test for yourself and see what works. One way to get an idea of what is working is to spy on your competitors. Take the urls of the sites that are ranking well for a keyword you are trying to optimize for and run it through yahoo site explorer or seo spyglass and see where they're getting their links from. This will give you an idea of some of the things you could be doing.

      I hope that helps.
