BMD - How Do Know A Blog Comment Won't Work?

I recently started working with Blog Comment Demon. At first I thought it was a piece because over 60% of the sites I tried to put a valid, well thought out comment on would be Word Press Blogs that had a dead comment script (just a blank screen after submitting a comment).
So I would waste 10 minutes thinking up a comment and get nothing in return.
1 thing I figured out was that if I find comment sections that already have a few comments, it works. So I don't even look at sites that don't have previous comments.
Does anybody else have a way to spot a comment section that is functional?
