Does domain name matter? Does OCI matter?

If you come across an exact match domain name, does it matter what that name or item is? How can you make money if you find a name or Keyword that is producing exact search hits? For example you find a word that is getting 250 SEOT per day, but you can not find a relevant product to sell for that keyword or the OCI is very very low for that word, is it possible to still profit from that name somehow?

      I think some of you are missing what I am asking. or maybe I should explain it better.

      I have found a word that is getting exact match searches of 250 per day. But the OCI is very low and there is is not a product keyword. Can it still make money, if so how?

    there are multiple ways to make money (monetize) from your site.
    Membership, Ads by Google or other, Affiliate links by ClickBank/commission junction etc., even make your own product and sell it.

    So there is always a way to make money from a niche, just use the appropriate tactic from the above list to monetize.

      You lost me with your question... you already admitted the fact that the OCI was low, right? Consequently, you are acknowledging that it has low commercial appeal and that these 250 exact searches a day are most likely tire kickers, window shoppers and lolly gaggers.

      So now you factor in these variables...
      • Is the eCPC commensurate with the OCI?
      • How many other advertisers are deploying PPC with this KWP?
      If the answer to your first question is "Yes" and the answer to your second question is, "None" or only a few, then you have a dud as far as commercial viability is concerned.

      If you figure out a way to convert that dud into a goldmine, I promise... you need to write a book or start a coaching program!

        Just go to Google and type your keyword phrase in. if you get at least one page of ads without them rotating, there is probably some commericial intent.

        you being able to make money from it is an entirely different question. the answer to that is always yes, but you might have to do so much work that it is not worthwhile.

          OCI = Online Commercial Intent and it refers to the probability of searchers looking to purchase versus just looking for information.

That scenario plays out on a hourly basis; Adwords campaigns being launched by inexperienced PPC investors who lose their shirts, pants, socks and shoes.

            True enough, I don't use black box stuff anyway, and I sure don't trust Microsoft to tell me what they think should be selling.

            And even though all the bidders for that particular keyword term for that particular timeframe might all be inexperienced and losing their shirts, I would suspect the odds of that happening are not that great.

            I am not a statistician, and I don't play one on the internet, all I can do is talk about my own experience, and checking the adwords has worked out pretty well for me.

        Listen to Crew Chief. Not every keyword is valuable. Lots of people search for things they never intend to buy. If you can get a domain that is an exact match for a product in demand, that could be very valuable. On the other end of spectrum, 250 searches a day for something that people never intend to buy is worthless. Sure, you could throw adsense on it and hope you can catch the eye of some of those searchers but it won't be worth your time.

    Hello ddlingo,

    In the eyes of a seo, domain names really matter. If possible, you should use your main keyword as your domain to get more relatedness to the site.

    BUT
    if you are into MLM or any related to this stuff, domain is different. They are into branding, which means they prefer to place their name to their domains.

    Does the name/keyword have any ties to a larger profitable market?

    If yes, then it might be worth owning the name, putting Adsense on it with a little content and then using it to link to another of your websites within the same market which has a better OCI rating.

    If no, and it is just some random phrase, then walk away and do not waste a bunch of time.

    Personally I do not even look at OCI. I look to see if there are Adsense ads running, and how many of them. I look to see if there are products within the market which are selling well and have been around for a while. If those two factors are not promising I would walk away and find another phrase.

    Yes , Exact match domain name helps as it is considered as keyword in URL but only if your landing page contains relevant content and same keyword is used in header, Body, Footer and keeping in mind proximity, prominance, and occurrence .
    And it is not possible to rank with wrong keyword and is you get ranked than too you are considered as spamer and u may loose ranking.

    Base on what I see, keywords in the domain name play a VERY BIG PART in SEO. If I were you, I'll definitely try to get the keyword in the URL.

    Along with optimizing your URL, you want to optimize your title tags, meta tags and your <h1>, <h2> tags and so on with your keyword.

      Exact match domain names + low competition market is a very powerful combination and they are quite easy to find. You can rank high and get traffic almost instantly with very little SEO and in some cases none at all!

    I totally agree with Crew Chief that there are some exact match domains not worth pursuing for direct sales purposes.

    But as others have said, there are other uses for them. If the domain is in your general niche theme then you can hub and spoke it to your main site to help drive traffic, use Adsense, or use affiliate products, etc.
