Multiple 301 Redirects from the same server IP. How it affects SEO.

Hey guys.

I've been debating about with the few fellow SEOs about the following:

"Do multiple 301 redirects from one and the same server ip stuck upon the positive SEO effect?"

If it does, theoretically you just can search for dead but relevant websites, buy them for mere pennies and then just do 301 Redirects to generate high quality backlinks.

Well, if there a problem, you can get another hosting account or ask a friend to let you host few websites on his servers and keep doing the 301 redirect job.

Also, it seems like a 301 redirect backlink is more powerful than just an usual backlink since it passes all the trust and authority of the site being redirected.

Nevertheless, I can't believe Google will not get alerted if you generate a hundred of 301 redirects to your site...

What are you thoughts about all that?

Thanks for your time.

I wouldn't expect a lot of good info on this tiny side of the backlinking world, for discussions like these I recommend the backlinks forum.

Also, to help you out with the question. It would be wise to invest in some SEO hosting to spread your 301's over a range of C class IPs. Additionally, purchasing only relevant domains might not do you too much good.

The whole point of the 301 is to pass on the PR and the authority so 301s from a handful of high PR sites will (I believe) prove to be more worthwhile.

      Hey, thanks for your response.

Yes, that's right, this is what I preffer to stick with: few 301 redirects for PR and authority sake.

And then just build a fleet of relevant websites separated by C Class IPs & DNS.

Some friends of mine reckon that any 301 redirect is always better than just a link, which I must disagree with.

      Again, thanks for the post.

I don't really think you can compare the two. Since a 301 with no PR/authority/age/links is quite useless.

      Yeah, that's right.

Also some studies show that abusing 301 redirect can also devaluate the existing effect of it.
